I am still in school and i am doing a paper about teaching children to read at young ages. I have looked into the YOUR BABY CAN READ program but feel that Alex my son is to old now and that i can do the same thing without buying the kit. Alex is only going to be 2 in December but he already reads some. I am wondering what other people think about teaching your child to read? What age do you think is right to start teaching a child to read? If anyone opposes to starting this early i would like to know i can't find any wedsites about people that don't think its smart.

Ashley, your question is valid. There are two schools of thinking on this: early learning & the Waldorf approach. The Waldorf school approach does not support early learning based on a different developmental model of children. This education was founded by Rudolf Steiner who believed that children need to develop social interaction in kindergarden. They should live in childhood...in imagination, play...this is their work. Writing is developed first ...normally towards the end of their 6th year & developed in first grade at 7. Then from writing, the child develops a natural affinity to read. Thats awsome so which parts worked more. I know there are like 5 different things that go along with it but what interested him the most.

My son is also 2 and he LOVES the YOUR BABY CAN READ stuff. We got when he was very small and he had no interest in it. A few months ago, he really just got into it. I don't think he's too old for the program. Abd it's never too early to learn how to read.
