Toilet Training Boys

My son is now 3 and we have been toilet training for approx 6mths....he is good when u put him on the toilet, but he never seems to know when he needs to go....he always says that he does not 'feel it' (ones or twoes). Does anyone have any tried and tested tips to help my wonderful son to go further with his toilet trainging and not do everything in his undies (not the best to clean up).....especially trying to co-ordinate our training to daycare training???? Thanks for any help offered!!

My daughter was a little bit like this. Eventually, I let her start the day in underwear, but I told her that if her underwear got wet or poppy, she wasn't going to get to wear any underwear (I was getting tired of cleaning underwear). So, she went naked for a few days; the potty chair was always close. It only took a couple days and a couple accidents for her to recognize the feeling of needing to go.

Also, people say you aren't supposed to punish a kid for an accident, but my daughter would get a 3 minute time out for an accident. I knew she was very capable of recognizing the signs, and I just matter-of-factly told her that if she didn't go potty in the potty she'd have a time out. She's completely potty trained now (at 3 years 8 months) and has been since April... thankfully before baby #3 arrived in May!

I have the same problem with my 3 year old. He stands up to do a number one and has done since he was about 2 and a half, but we too have soiled underwear every time! I agree its not the best thing to have to clean up. We have tried everything, praise, talking, the lot. Nothing seems to be helping. I think its because sitting on a toilet doesn't come as naturally to boys as it does to girls. I too would appreciate any help and advice. Best of luck

Hi

I tried to start my little boy at 18 moths but had none of it, i thought i was in for long haul, 6 months later he decided one day after getting out of the bath he didt want nappies on he wanted big boy pants on, we have never looked back, he is now 2 and a half and dry both day and night, my advice is your child will tell you when they are ready and there is no point in pushing them into it, cause it will probably take longer.

I would just remind him to go about every 2 hours, before you leave or go outside, before meals/snacks, and before nap/bedtime. This is what I did for my 2yos and after 4 months of going potty by a routine, they started telling me.
