My 2 1/2 year old daughter started potty training 12 days ago and has been accident free for 7 days! But now when she goes to use the potty before nap time and bed time she'll pee and then keep saying she has to pee and poop to avoid nap time and bed time. any suggestions on how to deal with this? I don't want her to think she's not allowed to use the potty or think she gets disciplined for saying she needs to use the potty, but i also don't want her spending 30 minutes on the potty to avoid sleep!!!

lol my daughter does the same thing! she is only 22 months but has no problem wakng up in the night so i know if she asks and she has already gone, that she will not go in her bed or anything like that. But my daughter even does is when we are out shoppin or when she wants out of the stroller just because she knows its going to mean mommy or daddy will stop and drop everything to get hre to the potty. Its her attention seking thing. :P I would say that what ive been doing is working- try to acknowledge it everytime but you dont have to always run to the bathroom. talking it out with them really works but kids are clever! lol they figure you out quickly :P After 6 days of trying it that way, my daughter isnt using it as an excuse as often. she used to do it all the time just to get our attention back on her if we dare not look at her for a minute lol (we both work, im expecting in march and panning our wedding so we are very busy all the time) It has worked so far and now she she asks to go, we tell her she needs to hold on until we get to a bathroom and we finish our shoppin or whatever we are doing if she has recently gone (when we know its a game) and she is so proud to hold it when she really does have to go! so i would try talking to her and letting her know she can go in the morning (given that you know she had a fair chance to go already) goodluck! :)

hey sounds like your doing a great job- congrats . maybe say' yes you can go potty as soon as you wake up from your nap/sleep, but right now we need need stay in bed'.... saying it that way doesn't bring negativity into it. good luck hope you find something that works for you
