Using the Potty or skipping the Potty and straight to the toilet?

I've had friends and family members who tell me that they didn't put their kid on the Potty and instead just put their kid on a potty seat which goes directly onto the toilet bowl. One friend who has 3 kids, said that she did this and it avoided having another transition from the Potty to the toilet. I'd like to get your comments and opinions on this? Or if any Mom has done this and how it all went?

I used both with my son. The little one worked best at the beginning b/c he would wait until the very last minute and needed to be able to go on his own. It also seemed to give him a little more leverage when he needed to poop. He was potty trained by the time he was 2 though, so maybe it worked best b/c he was so short and couldn't climb on the big potty (toilet) fast enough.

I always gave him the option when I was with him and when he finally got tall enough (and mature enough) to stand on a stool and pee, he never used the little potty again. For him, there was no difficult transition from little potty to big b/c he'd used both all his life. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. We have a potty and right now our son is at the stage of playing with the potty and sitting on it fully dressed. And he finds it funny when he sees Mommy go on the big toilet. So I'll see how he feels and how everything goes.

I started with the potty chair and home with my girls and the toilet at daycare (i worked at the daycare) and it worked well so maybe try both. put your child on the potty when you are using the toilet (if your confortable with that) and put your child on the toilet (with a seat) too.... alternate. it worked well with me and one day the potty dissapeared and i never had any issues at my house. :) good luck

Thank you. This is what we decided to do, to buy a potty chair and see how everything goes. See how our son reacts to it. Right now we're having it out in the kitchen so he can get use to it.

We got my son a potty chair, and he was scared of it. Wouldnt go near it. I took the seat out of it and put it on the big toilet, and he is using it just fine. We use the potty chair as a step stool now. I think its easier that way. My son sees mommy sitting on the big potty, so he wants to do it too. Hope that helps.
