When is it too young to potty train?

it depends on the child. My first was potty trained when she was 15 months old. The 2nd was just over 2. Then my 3rd has been a pain with it. He will be 3 in a week and he still has accidents.

My daughter is 18 months next week and has wee'd in a potty 3 times, i just put her on the potty after meal times and she will usually do a wee, i know this is coincidence, but i was advised that this is the best way to do it as they then work out waht the potty is for, especially after the big praises given.

my daughter also, when we go upstairs, runs straight to the bathroom points at the toilet and says, "wee, wee" then picks up her potty and says it too! Just remember each child is different and some never potty train they just go straight onto big girls/boys toilet!

Quoting Anita:

Well she don't like her diapers anymore and is always taking them off. She brings my diapers when she is wet or dirt.  So is she ready for me to show her the potty? And maybe get her use to it before really trying to train her?

i would say yes definatly..... how old is she i don't know if i missed that or not...

I think it depends on what you mean by "trained". If you want to teach your baby an association with a potty or toilet, you can start that really young. Some babies regularly pee into a potty when held on top of a potty at very young ages, less than a year. Instead of associating a diaper with pee and poop, they start to associate with the potty.

Now if you're talking about being aware of the body and learning how to go on their own, that's a different kind of training. I would say if the child cannot stand up from a sitting position on the potty, then that is too young. Some babes show interest very early on.

I think younger than 18 mos is too young but it is all up to your child when they show signs of readiness. They have to understand what is going on and be capable of having the feeling of going potty and sometimes that doesn't develop until more around age 2. When our child was 18 mos we started to familarize her with a potty chair and potty books but never forced anything. Good luck!
