Am I Starting Too Soon?

My daughter is 17 months old and VERY bright for her age. She's been showing an interest in the bathroom for the past few months, so I bought her a potty chair. She knows when she does her business. She gets my attention by patting her diaper (if she's pooped, she says "eeeew") and I know it's time for a diaper change. I think she's ready, but my mom says I'm starting her on the potty training path too soon. Should I wait a little while longer, until she understands the concept? Or is it okay to begin now, while she's showing interest?

I just started my 15 month old. She does the same thing as your little one and says poo when she has done it. She knows she has to do somthing on the toilet when we sit her on it but no success with the timing of it yet! Let me know how your doing with it!

I think you should try her. my mom works at a daycare and they start potty training their kids at 18 months if the parents likes too. i was gonna potty train my first one at 18 months but she got sick with neuroblastoma soo that was not gonna happen. but she is showing signs so i would try it out, she might be young but she knows when she needs to go. when you think she needs to go just place her on the potty and if she pees or poops then make a big reaction, like clapped ur hangs and say oh you did it, or something like that. but just give it a try, some kids are early some kids are late but i think she is ready from what ur saying. my daughter was 30 months, she was late but under our circumstances we had to do it later, but she did very well. but my friends baby was trained at almost 2.
