Help please. I have a grandson who just turned 3 years old. He will not go potty on the toilet, pee or poop. He screams and fights us everytime we try and put him on the pot. We have tried everything, bribing him with candy, peeing on cheerios, watching us, talking about being a big boy and not a baby. I have bought him the cloth training pants and big boy character underwear, nothing helps. He is very verbal and tells us he wants to be a baby and not a big boy. Other times he gets mad if you call him a baby. I have trained my 2 kids and a granddaughter but have never come across one that just won't try and fights it so much. For awhile he would sit on the toilet but do nothing. A couple of times he pooped a little, we made a big deal, and now he screams and fights. Does anyone have any suggestions, I don't know what to do anymore!!!

I'm having the same problem with my 2 1/2 yr. old. The first week of potty training went pretty well; he peed a handful of times & pooped once. The second & now third week he has decided that he does not want to sit on the toilet or potty. I battle to get him on the toilet & tell him he has tosit there & try for two minutes. I'm trying to put him on the potty every hour. He has not peed or pooped once in the last two weeks. I've tried progress charts w/ stickers, giving him stickers to put on his shirt, M & M's, ice cream, big boy underwear, etc. Nothing is working now. I'm not sure if I should take a break from potty training & try again in a few weeks or keep trying now. It feels like I'm wasting my time right now. I have an eleven month old & will try putting him on the potty like Jenn suggested. If I don't see any progress in the next day or so I'm going to tell him that he can't wear Pull-ups until he starts trying to go potty on the toilet. He can go back to wearing diapers like a baby.

Thank you for your response. He has been doing good now in the peeing department, finally. It is the poop that is the issue now. It is like he is afraid to do it on the potty, but we continue to work on it. He is the baby so that might be part of the problem. I appreciate your help.

My son was the same way until 4 days ago, I sat my 1 year old on the potty chair and said look, baby brother is peeing. He laughed. I asked him to show his baby brother how to pee in the potty, and he sat on the potty chair. We went and put some "big boy underwear" on and he had a few dribbles, and ran to the big potty every 3 minutes, but had been doing great. I don't know if he has any younger siblings, but this did the trick for me. Now on to pooping, my next challenge!!!
