My daughter was born 2 days ago at 1lb 4.5 oz, so scary, she is so small. I hope every day she gets stronger. This is my second child and i did not have Pre-e or HELLP with my first, so this is all new to me. I feel overwhelmed. I read about the preemies on here who make it and am so happy for all of you, but I have this fear, what if she doesn't? How do you cope with that? I don't want to be unrealistic, but I want everything good for my baby too. Any advice?

any time, i may not have stayed in as long but the emotional jurney is still the same wheather you are in for 1 week or 10. there is still a lot of catching up to do, my ebony will be one corrected in 11 days and is still not crawling and doesnt like food, but every little step forward is good. i got a diary and wrote down her story, emotins, love and milestones and dates so that i could remember and when she has childern then i can give it to her.
let me know if you have any questions, i will try to help.
enjoy.

Took my baby girl home Apr 11/12 at 4 lbs13oz. Now she is over 8 lbs. She is doing fantastic and I never would have believed it could be this normal. You would never know she was a preemie unless you knew her story. Thank you Renee Cook for your comments and support! Made me feel a little less alone :) I appreciate all the comments!

Today is 61 days in NICU so far, up to 2lb 15 oz!! She has moved into NICU level 2, which felt huge to us :) I am so glad every time I hear some one's story where the baby went home and did well. They say she has BPD, but she is still doing well so I guess we deal with that later if it becomes an issue. ANyways, I hope to have her home some time in April if all goes well :)

My daughter was born at 29 weeks 1 lb 13 oz...so a little older and a little bigger, but even so, very small for her age. She spent 108 days in the NICU. She spent most of the time figuring out how to breathe. We got through it by being grateful for the ups. Because the downs will come. They say two steps forward and one step back...the NICU cha cha. It really is true. We also took advantage of some of the activities available through the hospital that were free. We also had a good support system of friends and family who took care of our pets and house while we spent so much time at the hospital. Seriously, try not to get too caught up in the bad days. I know that is easier said than done. I wish you and your daughter all of the best. Feel free to ask me any more questions.

Baby is up to 1lb 14oz today. She had a PDA ligation to clos ea duct near her heart and has recovered very well. I am proud of her, she hasn't had hardly any major complications so far. My little fighter :)

i spent 52 days going home without ebony, and im sure that yours will be even longer, get to know the nurses and they will feel like "family" then it wont feel so bad leaving her with "family". What did you call her? people kept asking me who she looked like... and i said her ultrasound pics...the nurses liked that.

my baby was born at 28+6weeks at 2lb (small for age) i took every day as it came, everything that they do is for the benifit of your child and they are in the best place possible. sitting in the intencive care gives you a scued view of what happens. the nurses asked me if i wanted to be rung when ever something happened but i said only if its life or death, that gave me something new/change to look forward to when i got there.. weather they had moved her, on CPAP, off CPAP, under blue lights, feeds going from 2 to 3 hours, every little thing that can lift your spirits is a good thing. if you know anyone that can knit or crocet little funky beanies for the nurses to put on her something that can make you smile and get as many kangaroo cuddles as possible (they have been proven to help with develpoment and bonding) i found just sitting beside her doing a puzzle or reading was calming and dont be afraid to ask as may questins as you want. good luck and let us know how it goes. Ebony is now 5months corrected and doing great.

yours will to. (my profile pic is ebony at 5 weeks in hospital)
