My pre-Eclampsia went unnoticed until I was having Eclamptic fits and seconds from a heart attack! I feel like my midwife didnt listen when I told her I felt that something wasnt right. How was everybody elses experiences with midwives?

I do blame my Doctor, yes. I didn't know I had pre-eclampsia during my pregnancy, but they should have! When I had gained 10 pounds in 5 days at one of the Doctor's visits, that should have been an indication to get my bloodwork done. I was so swollen I couldn't wear any of my shoes or jewelry. Bad headaches all the time as well. I was told all of this was normal. After I delivered my daughter, my placenta also got stuck and I needed manual surgery (on top of the pre-eclampsia). I lost over half my blood and needed a blood transfusion. By the time I woke up from all of this, the Doctors were telling me I had pre-eclampsia which also developed into HELLP syndrome - that had to of been developing in my body for quite some time now, so bloodwork would have picked it up. I had to stay in the hospital hooked up to magnesium sulfate in case I took a seizure due to all this (I am not epileptic), and hooked up in case I needed more blood transfusions. I almost died because of their lack of paying attention to me. I am now pregnant with my second child, and I will not be going to the same Obgyn I had before.

I definitely blame my doctors and so does the doctors at the hospital where I had to delivered. I saw both a man and woman they rotated every appointment. When I told them of the pain I had been having in my ribs I was told to take tylenol. When I told this to the doctor that delivered my baby she told me this was an early sign of pre eclampsia and my doctor should have started monitoing me then. When I had an office visit at 28 weeks and my blood pressure was 140/75 my doctor told me to take my pressure three times a day at home and if it's ever 140/90 go to the hospital and go straight to labor and deliver. The last time I went to the hospital before having to deliver my doctor said she thought I had protein in my urine and asked if I had been seeing spots, or having headaches and the answer to that was no. I told her had some swelling in my feet and she said that was normal and that she would send the urine to be checked again and would call if there was something I needed to know. Well I never got that call and my son had to be delivered two days before I would have went back to the doctor for an appointment.

I must admit my midwife was fantastic it was the doctors that i felt let me down! My midwife realised what was happening when the doctor was going to send me home as he thought i was makin a fuss over nothing! as it was so severe i was rushed 2 have a c section and my family were told to say goodbye to me as it was looking that bad! so in my case i firmly believe my midwife saved my life!

I was lucky. I don't know why, I always thought something was wrong with my pregnancy, it was my first continuing pregnancy My general practitioner was fantastic and told me the symptoms and helped my fight to see a consultant as well as the midwife

I was having daily monitoring from 25 weeks, and the day before I had Joseph I saw my midwife and she didn't pick up on it. Luckily I did, and went to hospital and had Joseph at 27 weeks.

You can get full blown Eclampsia without pre eclamptic symptoms. But if you weren't listened to, that's not good.
