i had my 2nd test on friday and it came back positive - i followed all of the rules. so if you think it may have tainted things, reschedule.

My doctor told me after mid-night not to eat or drink .
& 8:15 i went in the lab , to get the disgusting drink !
If i were you i would wait because like Laura said you don't want your test results coming back as 'false' positive for diabetes . So do things the right way , i was dying to eat . but my doctor said only after midnight and she made my appointment right in the morning thank God !!

I refused my test with this pregnancy.It alway made me really sick to the point of passing out. With my 2nd son i failed the 1 hr by only a few point had to do the 3 and it came back fine mind you my doc said you dont have to fast for the hr just the 3 hr. With my 3rd i fasted and still failed the 1 hr by a few points (and every lab goes by a scale the one i was at went by the lowest and said i failed but if I went to a diff lab i would have been fine). Any way they wanted me to do the 3 hr i told them no b/c of what i went thru with my 2nd son and my 3rd for the 1 hr. They tried to get my to eat 56 jelly beans but its still the same thing its a sugar shock. Theres no history in my family and my boys came out fine. This time they are having my do a finger prick and test again in 2hrs.

I just went for my glucose test Sat. and I wasn't told to fast. I guess I probably hadn't eaten or had anything to drink in about 10-11 hours anyway. I don't think having some ice tea would make a difference. I guess you went by now anyway since you posted this 10 days ago :)

I was never told to fast for mine, just nothing really sugary for breakfast since I am doing it at 8 am. and it is only the 1 hr. It probably really wont hurt you just drink water and you should be fine.

If this is for your one hour glucose test you shouldn't have to fast. I didn't. If it's for your 3 hour glucose test I was told to fast after midnight (besides water of course) for a 7 am test. I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck!

at my one hour glucose test I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I only had to fast for my 3 hour test.

I was never told to fast. I had mine done last week and all I had to do was avoid excess sugar intake a day or two before.

I went for the 1Hour test and the nurse who took my blood told me that fasting before the test only made a difference for the 3 hour test so if this is the first one you should be fin =)

To be completely honest I don't think it does really matter... I too am going for the first time very soon... This is my second child and like you I didn't have to have this test done either... I didn't know that I was supposed to fast for 12 hours before hand so thanks for that info... But as far as the fasting goes usually they tell you nothing after midnight which is not a problem for most ppl because you are sleeping most of that time... Check with the dr or the hospital about the amount of time and how much they enforce that rule...

My doctor aloud me to eat just nothing sweet for 4 hours before the test. It should hurt anyways I passed mine.

When I went I was told nothing after Midnight, regaurdless of what time the testing was ... I would call the lab that you are going to and ask them. Be honest and let them know what happened.

It is important for you to fast for this test. You dont want it to come back as a false positive for gesational diabetes. You don't want to have to go through all the hoops for nothing...trust me. I do not have have have the glucose tolerance test done as I am a type 1 diabetic so I know what you would end up going through. and a little ice tea could possibly throw it off...I would wait and do it another day.
