I mean that's a few months away from adulthood so really discipline is done by then and who she is she is going to be.

I think at 17 it's considered assault. By then your daughter could have been living on her own, buying BC, getting her own medical attention including vacines and surgerys or abortions on her own. She can have a job drive a car, etc.

Spankings are done by that age!

I totally agree with Ruth Meyer, and Emma Sørensen.for girls. I feel for extreme behaviors spanking should be used as long as we are paying the bills. I had to stop spanking my son when he was 14. In a way the older you the more effective spanking can be.

It's illegal to hit a seventeen year old in Canada. and for your sake, I hope they don't turn around and hit you back cause they're probably stronger and angrier than you at this point. just sayin

While spanking can be used on a 17 yo, physically it becomes a problem. If the teen is so out of control that they need to be punished physically, they will object to being spanked and may actually injure you if you try.

I strongly suggest you take something away, such as a video game console, an iPod, or some other item of value to the teen such as the right to drive, or ground them from specific social activities.

The other thing to consider is that if the teen does something that only harms them personally just let them take their lumps and do not step in to rescue them. If the teen is harming others physically then consider telling them that the next time you will call the police. Then do it.
