With the first c/s i had inside dissolvable stitches but on the outside it was really weird. It was like a thin wire had been weaved through and what kept it in place was the beads on either end. Felt really yuck but held me together lol

I ripped it off when I had a shower in the hospital! Can't remember why I thought I should do that now!

Psh, I left mine on a long time, Julianne, 4 wks to be exact.
For my C-section, not the uterine surgery. I was just too scared to take them off and they were holding up fine. So call me irrational too! :)

And in the Wiki link it says this: "One of the drawbacks of the construction of steri-strips is the fact they are paper based, this means that their durability can be compromised if they get wet. Products such as Leukostrip have been developed that are made of a synthetic material that will repel water and therefore remain in place longer."

I took a shower every day and washed mine with soap they held up with no issues whatsoever.

I left my steri strips on for an extra week...I was scared my stomach would fall out if i took them off too soon so i waited...irrational i know...LOL

Yea I looked them up...sutures are stitches i was wrong :P
I had steri strips too. I think thats why my scar is so small. My friend had a section too and she had staples...Her scar is way worse than mine because the staples lift the skin while its healing instead of letting it lay flat like with the strips. So the scar is bubbled and has dots beside it.

Aren't sutures, stitches? lol Now I'm all confused. Steri strips are just tape...REALLY good tape. They fall off after a few days or you can pull them off after 4-5 days.

What are steri strips?
My stitches on my c/s scar were ones that just disappeared.....I didn't have to have them taken out or anything.

Did any of you have to have injections every day after your c/s?? I did.......they bloody stung like hell!! They were to stop clotting or something.

steri strips and sutures are the same thing aren't they?

Wow, I had steri strips for all of my surgeries. Did anyone else? I'm sure that's helped with my lack of scarring.

I had the choice for staples or sutures, it was kind of like being glued...So i only have a straight line instead of the holes from stitches or staples. Its a small scar.Kind of dimpled on one side where the skin didn't heal together properly. I'm still numb from my belly button down. Its like the skin doesn't feel when i touch it, but if i push a bit i can feel it underneath. I still get pain if i move certain ways. Its like the muscle won't stretch because of scar tissue.

My C-section scar isn't that bad at all. I had my son in 2008 and my scar is almost non-existent. Sometimes I get a little pain on the end of one side. And of course it's got that oddly numb, yet not all the way numb, thing going on around it.

Then I've got 3 scars from my uterine surgery in June. The two on the side are hardly noticeable anymore, there's just slight discoloration for the most part and unless I point it out, you don't even notice. Then there's the scar from that same surgery right under my belly button. It's about an inch long and only a thin white line. It's not really noticeable either. And I've got no excess skin but, I'm also thin to begin with and my stomach has always been flat.

I'm really hoping that with my upcoming C-section that this doctor does as well as my last C-section doctor!

I didn't really. It felt odd the first few months, but my mom gave me some hypericum cream and calendula gel to help nerves heal. After 6 months I couldn't really tell the difference. and my scar line is so small. I feel really lucky and that the doctor did a great job.

My last c-section was 2005 but hen had abdominal hysterectomy in 2007 and abdominal ovary removal in 2008.

Edit to add

With both later surgeries they found a lot of adhesions in the abdominal cavity which apparently caused alot of the pain and uncomfort.

My son was born by c section in May 2006. I also have that weird numbness....it is so uncomfortable.

How old is your scar Marina?

That's a shame for your husband Jennifer. Does it bother him at all? I have numbness in my lower belly area but I attribute that from having to cut through the nerves etc so many times.

Mine's mostly just numb. They did a good job of sealing me up both times. It's fairly unnoticeable other than the excess skin. My husband on the other hand, has the hugest most horrendous scar I've ever seen. The did a horrible job of patching it up and it got infected in the hospital. It was from intestinal surgery. Makes me feel less self-conscience about mine. ;)

My c section scar is uncomfortable. Like if my cat steps on it, or you touch it, it feels really weird. Kinda like if you rub a cats fur the wrong way...I am not sure how else to explain it. When I had my ultrasound, it hurt when they pressed the probe on it.

Wow. Never heard of being glued there before.

The end of my appendix scars puckers just a little (bobble pinhead size) because they tried to take the stitches out too early but it doesn't give me any trouble.

Yeah, I was kind of glued together after my appendix rather than stitches, god knows why!

Glad most of yours don't bother you. Pity your appendix one does at times. Maybe it has adhesions on it if the skin was puckered? I know they can make things painful.

I like having nice straight lines for scars lol My c-section ones are the only ones like that hahaha

I've got a few scars on my abdomen, I've got the C-section scar, obviously! and an appendix scar, and scars from when I had Shingles!

Never had any problems with my C-section scar, it's not hurt again since I had it and it's pretty faint and a nice straight line.

My appendix scar on the other hand is awful! LOL. It's wonky and it makes my skin kind of pucker inwards (hard to explain!) it hurt for ages and I still get pain in it now, especially if it's cold for some reason.

My Shingles scars are only teeny so they don't bother me at all :)

I have so many abdominal scars its like railway tracks lol but in saying that I think I've been pretty lucky. Most are very very feint and hardly noticeable.

Well until recently (last few years when I had to have a hysterectomy then ovaries removed year after that). With all the exess skin, the scars are rubbed alot so they get very sore.
