I recently made a caterpillar cupcake for my son's first birthday. The theme was A Very Hungry Caterpillar.

For my son's 6th birthday, he wanted to have a Star Wars themed party. We obliged by planning a super-fun Jedi Training Camp full of activities and replete with foam lightsabers for all the attendees. I had a million ideas for the cake, but the one he wanted was from our local grocery store. Only trick, my son has food allergies! After the grocery store cake failed (see post), I baked him an allergy-free R2-D2 cake to be proud of. Not only was it a hit (thank god, I'm not a very skilled decorator), but it tasted great. Phew!

Since my family is vegan, I've created two delicious chocolate and vanilla cupcake recipes that we always share with non-vegans who never seem to know the difference! I use all natural food coloring which creates the most beautiful colors and came up with a yummy creamy frosting to go with it! The cupcake recipes can also be made into regular cakes which we've done before too.

I made some "Bazinga" cupcake toppers for my teenage son's birthday. The theme was the Big Bang Theory television show!

This is a cake that I recreated for my Mother in Law's 50th birthday. I had seen Bakerella make cupcakes and use the chocolate decorations as toppers. I adapted her recipe to make a 3 tiered cake and used her stencil for the decorations. My mother in law said it was the best birthday cake she's ever had!

This is the cake that I made for the Aloha Summer themed birthday party for my daughters.

I wanted to have a layered cake consisting of the party's colors. We used four 6 inch cake pans and created 4 sets of batter each using concentrated paste until we reached the colors we desired. Just a couple of drops and the colors were achieved.

This was THE BEST chocolate birthday cake I've ever made. It was for my husband's birthday last year and he loved it. I used gluten free flour (my son can't tolerate wheat) and also changed a few things to lower the fat content a little bit. It was still so decadent and delicious!

I made this cake for my niece's 5th birthday party. I love the simplicity of the ruffles and flowers...it's one of my favorite cakes that I've made. :)

I made this cake for my daughter's first birthday. She loved pink at the time so I went for it. Three tiers of yummy chocolate and slathered it in homemade pink icing. I spray painted letters in her name (River) at the top. I also bought large flowers at Michaels to stick into the cake. It was a big hit. It tasted even better than it looked.

My little boys love scene cakes from Star Wars. We made this Planet Hoth Wampa Cake from the Empire Strikes Back movie...
http://kitchenfunwithmy3sons.blogspot.com/2012/05/planet-hoth-wampa-cakestar-wars.html

and this Garbage Masher cake last year from the movie A New Hope...

Definitely different, but the big Star Wars fans love them! They are pretty easy to make as well!

I had my cake designer make this Barbie cake for my daughter's 4th birthday party last year. My mom made me an adorable Barbie cake for my own 4th birthday so it was to do the same for my Kate! {cake by decadent delights}

For the kids third birthday they wanted a Mickey and Minnie Mouse theme. So I made cupcakes with Mickey and Minnie on them made out of Oreos. They were a huge hit!

I had this cake made for my daughter's Madeline Birthday party! It was beautiful! I ordered fondant toppers from Edible Details and asked the baker to include tiny flowers, stripes with small dots, and a quilted/tufted top in yellow. It turned out perfectly! My daughter requested a big red bow which was perfect to "tie" it all together! :) ! http://party-wagon.com/portfolio/madeline-party/

I really enjoyed making this lollipop flower garden birthday cake for my daughter, because it was easy, no pressure and the kids loved it. My two children were able to help me with the decorating because it was no fuss and involved lots of candy!

For my son’s 8th birthday, I got totally ambitious and decided to make cake pops for the first time. Since he loves football, I figured why not. I made a football field to hold the Football Cake Pops using a rectangular basket, a foam base, green “grass,” and a goal post made from lollipop sticks. My Football Cake Pops have a rich chocolate cake center and a yummy peanut butter coating. Seriously.. what’s better than chocolate and peanut butter? Nothing!

Here's the golf cake I made for my son's 5th birthday - http://www.thismamacooks.com/2006/02/nathans_golf_ca.html.

I think the adults were more impressed than the kids. Even so, I was proud that I made such a nice cake without having to buy a special cake pan for it!

I made a pink robot cake for my daughter's second birthday. There weren't any feminine ones online, so I just looked at a bunch and used them as inspiration. It wasn't as hard as I thought! And it was also super delicious - funfetti with chocolate pudding filling and whipped cream.

My two boys have birthdays 9 days apart so in the past I've done a joint birthday party and made a cake for each of them. One year we had an animal themed party for them and I made a monkey cake baked in an oven proof bowl for the shape of the head, and a snake cake baked in bundt cake pans and then cut to form a long snake shape. The kids loved them! http://www.foodwhine.com/2010/09/birthday-cakes.html

This is a super simple monster truck cake we made together as a family. I am no cake decorator . . . I can't even get the cake to release from the pan . . . but we had a lot of fun and the finished produce looked pretty good!

The best birthday cakes are the ones that are made with love. Daddy made a very special cake for his baby girl for her 2nd Birthday. She absolutely loves Elmo, so daddy did not disappoint!

For my 50th birthday, my friend at a local cake shop designed a cake that told the story of my life in the form of the Game of Life board. Each tiny square on the road had a milestone of my life, like graduating from college, getting married, becoming a blogger, and becoming a mom. The top had a spinner that actually rotated and said "Happy 50th" on it. It was an amazing cake! I don't have a blog post, but posted pictures to Flickr on it.
