My daughter turns 16 in June and we are doing a '50s party. We are going to a fifties style diner and all of the kids will come dressed in time period clothing. Trying to get cars lined up right now so she can ride to her party in style, in a fifties model car.
One of her friends had her sweet 16 party a few months back and had a masquerade party. Again, everyone was encouraged to dress in period style clothing. Since they didn't have a lot of time due to the birthday girls very full schedule, the entire party met and went on gondola rides. Lots of fun!
Another great idea that we kicked around for my daughter's party was a Mad Hatter party. I have been to one before and they can be an absolute blast.
For boys - a couple of years ago my son had a paint ball party. Everyone had a great time despite the extremely hot weather.

Pick a color theme...my daughter did neon green and black..she asked all her friends to wear black...she wore a red & gold Jovani ballerina dress. Invitations were inside chocolate fortune cookies...then placed inside black Chinese food boxes which were filled with neon green Easter grass. Got a DJ, had cotton candy, slushies, candy bar, The best part was she went and changed her outfit, .....I took a black hoodie, and tank top to a guy that airbrushed her Name with a star design.....it glowed under a black light ....she wore her black Uggs and a black, and a neon green tutu. I had all her friends line up across from each other....then she danced down the middle in the dark ...with only the black lights to show off her name...All of her friends were wearing neon green glow necklaces.....we had flip book fotos so that each guest for to do a flipbook then that was what they got to take home. for pictures check out my Facebook at Mary Susan Forbes McCloskey.....look for Keeleys sweet Sixteen......I will be happy to help anyone with ideas!

For my daughters Sweet 16 party we did a spa party. Her and three of her friends got to go to the local spa and have their hair done, manicures, pedicures, facial and makeup application.

You could also contact a local Mary Kay or Avon rep. They love to do "make-overs", etc.

I'm planning a Father/Daughter dance. Their birthdays are so close together, I thought it would be meaningful to host this for her and her friends. We are planning to gift her with a purity ring based on discussions we've all had together. see www.purityringsonline.com for ideas.

This is a great opportunity for her friends to make a similar commitment. I think there was a movement in the US that started this, I'm just using a good idea.

We had a "carnival" theme for my daughter's Sweet 16 and converted our garage to a carnival with traditional carnival games. We had a traditional popcorn and cotton candy machine and chocolate fountain. We all dressed up as circus characters, she being the Ring Master. We had a professional DJ come in for dancing in our living room and had a "glow room" in the basement. It was pretty cool!

We had a Photo Shoot/Modeling party. WOW! It was awesome! I called around and found a photographer that would charge me a flat rate for two hours....then a flat rate to buy the CD's/photograph rights. She just gave me all the CD's of the raw photos. We had the girls wear an outfit of choice, then the photographer had a friend that owned a boutique and we were able to BORROW long fancy gowns and sparkly jewelry (costume) to use in the photo shoot. The photographer finished the shoot with my daughter's friends all kneeling down in front of my daughter with their cellphone cameras or big cameras taking pictures of her (pretending) and my daughter acting like a movie star and they were the paparazzi. It was too cute. The photographer had a room we decorated and had non messy snacks then afterward, had cake and ice cream. Best party EVER! For gifts for the girls, I edited a few of the best photos of each girl, and burned them on to a CD for each family. (along with all the unedited photos too) This was in January and they STILL are talking about it.)

My daughter will be 16 this summer. She wants a candy themed party. Each table will have a different candy centerpiece, which will be edible. Every guest will get a bag to fill with the candy on the tables as a favor. Her invitations are swirl lollypops that will be hand delivered.

We had a modern Japanese theme party. We bought sushi from the grocery store and had cupcakes made to look like sushi. You can also make ham sandwich rolled and cut to look like sushi.
The table was covered in a pink and white gingham table cloth to the floor. On top of that I had a lime green with white polka dots table cloth. Then the plates and take out boxes only were zebra print. I made purple cupcake holders for each girl. Above the table I hung purple and lime green Japanese lanterns. It really was cute. I'm having a super hero party for my daughters 16th, crazy, but its what she wants, that way you can do either male or female, everything is in a super hero style with the cake being batman, spiderman, captain america & superman with decorations including them and the hulk and others, as well as super hero females, just can't think of their names off hand. We have little spiders, eyeballs etc for deco and spider cupcakes and even a superhero jumping castle and its going to be at night, with all the colours of the super heros.

Wii dance party gets everyone up and moving...then give prizes for funny, made up catagories...flashiest dancer, jumpiest dancer, princess dancer, diva dancer, smiliest dancer...
let the girls vote for winners in each catagory. you could even have them all wear old prom or homecoming dresses. Girls seem to have a lot of laughs with dance party.

My daughter just turned 16 and we invited a few friends and went to the beach for a few days - no boys/hubby or brothers. We went to the boardwalk, out for ice cream at 2 am .....had a great time.

Parties she has gone to: picked up in a LIMO and drove them to a hotel (swim, movies, stay up all night - parents left a huge tip for the housekeeper); another party the mom had everyone meet at her house - they dressed up in prom type clothes, she had someone come do hair, makeup and nails - LIMO picked them up and took them to a restaurant where they cook in front of you, then to the movies and LIMO came back and took them back to spend the night. Yep lots of limo rides for a 16 yo.

My daughter just turned 16. We gave her a Jersey Shore night club party. All of her friends wore neon colors that would glow in the black lights. The DJ did a wonderful job with the lighting and music. To say my daughter is hard to please would be an understatement, but this party blew her away. She was thrilled to be with her friends & family and just dance the night away.

My daughter is 16 in two weeks and i have bought cheap props IE: crazy hats, stick moustaches, lips, glasses and ties feather boas and put up a black velvert curtain for backdrop for a photo booth. No need to print photos just post to individual attendees facebook. She is having an open fire in the back yard, finger foods such as buffalo wings, party pies, sausage rolls, sushi, mini spring rolls and chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmellows also used for fire, cup cakes soft drinks, water and hot chocolate as it is winter here in Australia. All the attendees are musical so a few are also bringing guitars for a sigalong around the fire. The TV will be on with no sound as there is a big AFL game on that the boys will want to keep an eye on. Music is off all ipods/iphones through a docking station. A few fairy lights and balloons for decoration. hope this helps. I have some feedback from 2 girls attending saying the photo props will be a blast!

How about hosting a fashion party? Nothing would impress the young ladies more than a party that will give them loads of opportunities to dress up, behave, and being treated as a pop diva. 16 year olds are sure to love this idea. Depending on your budget, either host this party at home or rent out a place where you can easily design a ramp. Ask the youngsters to dress-up like models. Create a red carpet entry for them to treat them like celebrities. Set up makeup stations where they get their makeover. Later, host a ramp walk for them. Capture lots of pictures and give them away as favors. Serve low-fat finger food and plan a couple of other activities to keep them busy throughout the party. What do you say ?

I rented a ropes challenge course, had screen printed t-shirts that had a Superman logo on the front and my dd name on the back w Sweet Sixteen and the date. Made a big pot of chili and had cake
They all loved the zip line's, giant swing and other obstacle / team building activities. Now I am struggling w dd #2 wanting the same, except she is January - not September.

I borrowed the hall at my church and hired a wizard rock band, her favorite music and it wasn't gutter rock. The youth pastor and I made up a light dinner, Miracle had a wonderful time

When is the birthday?

0 Votes

I have 5 children, the eldest of which will be 16 after Christmas. With 2 other birthdays in January as well I have said he's not having a party. This seems to be a new idea in Britain, in our family once you go to senior school parties end. At 13 they go to the cinema and get a McDonald's with just their friends, then at 18 they will get a big party. It might sound mean but let's face it 16 is not a big milestone age in the UK, at least in America they get a driving licence, here there is very little they are able to do extra to when they turn 15

My daughter is turning 16 just after Christmas and has no idea what she wants. I suggested she could have a Cocktail Party (mocktail though) and they could all dress up and have music, fancy drinks and canapes or similar fancy nibbles. Most teen girls love the opportunity to dress up and where we live they only have a school ball in the final year of high school.
