In Washington, you have to be 16 to get a job - A few limited things are open to 15 1/2 year olds. I started working at McDonalds when I was 15 and a half, the youngest that you can work in this state - And I expect my child to look for a job as soon as she's old enough too.
I really want to avoid that whole "entitlement" attitude that so many children get. I want her to value what she has, and learn how money works. A family is a team - and everyone should help out. A teen getting their own job and earning their own money to help buy their "wants" is a great way to contribute!
I would also let her do other work to earn money even earlier - Like mow lawns or babysit, since those were all things that I did as a kid too.
It would depend on the job. Because 5 yr old helps me sort coupons and that is my job! When he learns to type and read better I might have him create his own posts so maybe 7 or so. As for a job outside the home it will depend what it is where and how he is doing in school!
My mother worked hard for my siblings and I to have fun and get the things we wanted but she also had us work for them thru chores and extra projects.
I want to make sure my kids understand that what we have was from the ard work we ourselves put in and if they want anything beyond the necessities and our once in awhile surprises or gifts from celebration they will work for them.
My oldest two kids understood that mommy doesnt buy anything unless she has a coupon for it so when christmas came around they would look through the toy books for coupons. I'm a smart shopper and I buy on clearance and with coupons but I'm glad they understand mommy or daddy is not made of money and we do work for the money we have.
15 or 16 years old. I had my first job at 15 and it taught me to be responsible and the value of the Dollar.
I think if it was a babysitting job or helping do lawn work for the neighbors or something like that it would be when my child wanted to. But for a job where they would have set days to work or a set amount of hours, I would think a bit older just because school comes first and to let a kid be a kid.
Depends on maturity level and location of the part time job and hours that would be worked but I would say around 15 or 16 which is when I got my first job. Teaches them responsibility and the value of a dollar.
I would let a mature child get a part time job around the age of 14, depending on what kind of job it was. My oldest son began doing yard work for a lady at church, once a week. I would drive him to her house, drop him off for 2 hours, then pick him up. It was great experience for him and it was a blessing to her. I think the type of job and the maturity of the child need to be a complete match-up to be successful.
I started babysitting by age 11 and was 14 when I started working at the local flower shop down the street from my house. My parents made sure it never interfered with school work. So for my daughter, it will depend on her grades, her responsibility level and what she planned on using the money for
I think 16 is the youngest I would let me daughter work...school comes first!

I think 15 is a great age. I had my first job at 15 and my oldest had his first job at 15 and all worked out well.
I just let my 16yr old daughter just start her first Job.
And she is doing amazing, she already is loved by her employer.
