At my 4 year olds recent party:
we made binoculars from toilet paper rolls,
and we iced cookies - huge success.
For my younger daughter, (2yr old party) (unfortunately no picture yet):
we made necklaces: I pre-cut pieces of ribbon/scooby wire and put out several dishes of snacks that have holes in them, cheerios, and lots of different chips. the kids thread their necklaces, and then ate them! I copied this from a friend of mine, and it is probably my favourite birthday craft so far.

I love this easy stamp made out of a celery stalk that makes flower!

I mention them in my Valentine's post, but they would be fun and easy for every occasion: http://dagmarbleasdale.com/2012/01/10-cute-and-easy-valentines-day-cards-and-crafts-for-kids/

By far my favorite birthday craft was to make Superhero capes! Each kid got a cape with the first letter of there name on it and they were able to decorate from there. He still plays with it!

Most of our parties are themed so the activity usually goes along with it. I think my favorite, so far, was our art party. I covered scrap pieces of sturdy cardboard with patterned fabrics. Then I set out fabric markers and stencils so the kids could make their own piece of art to take home with them.

At other parties we have taken standard kid's games, like pin the tail on the donkey, and with the help of a graphic designer, made it much more modern looking. Also, I love to create an image that goes along with the party and print it out on watercolor paper that you can find from your local craft store and set it out at the party with watercolor paints for the kids to play with. It is less messy than you might think and kids are really drawn to it.
