If the new mom has a crock pot - I have just the thing! For my own meal preparation I do batch meals where I prepare multiple (the most ever was 34) meals at one time. I put them all into gallon zip lock bags and freeze. It takes a day to do it, but then dinner is "done" for a while. In the morning I put the frozen chunk of a meal in the crock pot and let it do it's thing. Dinner is done at the end of the day and there's barley any mess!

I've done two posts about the these mass meals (with shopping lists and recipes) and I've brought them to new moms and they've loved it!

Our 7 step dinner would be a wonderful dish to take to a new mom. This dish includes pasta, but a dry box along with the frozen meal would work very easily.

something that won't make going to the loo a problem..Brocolli and cauliflour cheese bake - or cheesy spuds or thai green chicken curry on rice! yum!- stuff that will give her some nutrients and be good for breastfeeding - Or you could do a platter with nuts and dried fruits etc as they are great snaks for energy and she won't have much of that.. Almonds are supposedly really good :) - And maybe later on when babys old enough - a bunch of ziplock bags of frozen baby foods - mashed kumera, banana, apple, spuds, pumpkin etc that would be wonderful!

Before I had my son I baked quite a bit and bundled muffins in snack size portions to freeze so I would have a convenient snack without the temptation of a whole plate right in front of me after the baby arrived. It was perfect! Everyday I'd pull a muffin out and warm it in the microwave mid-morning. It was as though they were freshly made and it was a very nice treat. Because it worked so well for me I now do this for others. I take them over pre-packaged and ready to go. One of my favorite muffin recipes for this is Banana Muffins. They freeze well, are healthy and delicious.

Turkey Veggie Sloppy Joe Sliders! Make a double batch, freeze half, and deliver the rest with a basket of homemade slider buns. Healthy, hearty, and comforting food, just what I wanted when I was home with my new boy!

Chili is a very easy dish to freeze. And it's so easy to remove the chili from the container - soak in hot water for a few minutes or give it a quick zap in the microwave. Then put the still mostly frozen chili in a slow cooker on low for 4 hours or until completely heated through.

This recipe is from my friend and cookbook author, Holly Clegg. It's good anytime of the year you need something zummy to eat. Even better, you only need one hand to eat chili, so it's easy to hold the baby while you dine. Just be careful not to spill any hot food on the baby!

Honestly? One of the best dishes I ever got after my twins were born was a tureen of home made chicken noodle soup. It was laden with fresh vegetables, chunks of chicken and was hearty, full of nutrients, could be eaten quickly and simply warmed my soul.

Since many new moms tend to get a lot of pasta dishes, I try to do a few other dishes that I think they'd enjoy. I like to make my (slow cooker) Cranberry Chipotle BBQ Pulled Pork along with some rolls. I like to put the pork in small sealable bags so that it can easily be frozen and defrosted in small batches. The meat is great in sandwiches, enchiladas, or just by itself.

I also like to make stratas that are great for breakfast, lunch, or even dinner! One of my favorites is my Mexican Sausage Cornbread Strata. It's something a little different and not the usual freezer meal.

My favorite freezable dish to bring to a new mom is vegetable lasagna. It so hearty and comforting!. It is also a healthier alternative to fat laden cheese and meat centered casseroles. I love to deliver this casserole unbaked with freezing/baking instructions. Add a loaf of french bread and a salad and a new mom will love you!

For a sweet but healthy little treat for a new mom, share these freezable peanut butter chocolate cereal bars. They are a great quick nutrient fix when you are up breastfeeding during the night. Trust me, I've done it! All that breastfeeding makes you hungry!

My favorite dish to bring (and to receive after birth!) is actually a giant bowl of salad. While most people are bringing pasta and starchy foods, a new mom usually needs the extra fiber of a salad while her intestines are falling back into place and hemorrhoids are flaring up from all that pushing...and she can't very well stand in the kitchen to chop one up herself.

A great dish to take to a new mom would be some zucchini corn cakes! These little handcakes freeze well. Because you make them in a big batch the new mom can take out and thaw as many or as little as she needs! It helps to stretch the meal! These little zucchini cakes are loved by adults and children!
