Since we avoid many of the top allergens and I spend a lot of time recreating all those yummy treats in allergy-free form, I always appreciate anything my son can eat off-the-shelf. And in the spring, this includes PEEPS!

Peeps are amazingly free of the top 10 allergens including soy and gluten. Great for an allergic kid or a party. Trust me: your food allergic friends will appreciate it!

We had a blast making these fantastic Sweet Seedlings with my daughter!

It's is Chocolate Dirt with a sprig of mint as the seedling.

Healthy, Vegan, can be made gluten-free and can easily avoid all the common allergens.
It's also easy and no baking required. My four year old was involved all the way ;)

It is a great treat to celebrate spring after a long day gardening ;)

With spring and Easter bring tons of fun ideas for colorful FUN lunches. That old bunny cookie cutter sitting in your kitchen drawer can bring a boring lunch to life! Simple cut out your usual sandwich with the cutter, add some cheese eyes, a side of carrots and your favorite fruit, and Ta-Da! You have yourself a fun, spring filled lunch for a special treat!

Easter seems to be all about the chocolate! We make our own candies to be sure that they're safe for all our guests. These allergen-free, gluten-free, vegan candy recipes are absolutely delicious, not mention easy to make. If you put them in pretty spring candy papers, they're perfect for a party or hostess gift!

I think making your own homemade truffles in a flavor you like can be delicious and rewarding. It can make a great gift for friends and family and the kids can help roll them into balls and in cocoa powder or nuts or coating of your choice :) Its a great way to work together and have a great result at the end = something yummy to eat and share with others

If you are looking for a decoration / craft to do ... in the past we have made easter trees, sounds funny hey? but it does look cute. You can find the link to that here http://www.bettybake.co.za/2010/04/things-i-made-or-ate-this-weekend.html

My challenge after Easter is what to do with all those hard boiled eggs! Luckily the kids, my husband and I love them plain with a little salt and pepper. We also like to make deviled eggs. My daughter, Lucie, makes excellent ones with mayo and a little bit of relish like her dad showed her to make.

For more sophisticated pallets, try these Blue Cheese Deviled Eggs - http://www.thismamacooks.com/2010/09/more-healthy-appetizers-blue-cheese-deviled-eggs.html. They're so delicious that my son ate a dozen (six whole eggs) of them by himself at a party. He didn't smell very pleasant the next day if you get my drift. So now he's only allowed a few at a time.

One thing I have done through the years with my family as soon as Spring hits and the markets are full of strawberries, I make Strawberry Shortcakes for dinner. You heard me! Dinner. The sun lingers longer on our days, the breezes turn sweet, and the crisp in the air gently turns to warmth. The scone-like cakes bake away in the oven while fresh juicy berries are cleaned and sliced, and fresh cream is whipped up. Everyone will love you for it.

Spring makes me think of light and fruity treats. Strawberries are one of my favorites..... Today I'm sharing my favorite recipe for gluten free melt in your mouth Strawberry Shortcake. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

When I think of spring, I think of strawberries! After a long winter, I love snacking, baking, and cooking with fresh strawberries! Two of my favorite strawberries treats are twists on the classic strawberry shortcake:

1) Dark Chocolate Strawberry Shortcakes with Amaretto Cream
http://snappygourmet.com/2011/05/04/dark-chocolate-strawberry-shortcakes-with-amaretto-cream/
This treat was inspired by strawberry shortcake but this version combines dark chocolate shortcakes, fresh strawberries, and a quick and easy cream filling flavored with Amaretto. But don't worry, the Amaretto, can easily be left out if you prefer.

2) Mini Strawberry Shortcake Poppers

This snack is also a twist on strawberry shortcake. These Mini Strawberry Shortcake Poppers are bite-size with a secret ingredient that will literally make them "pop" in your mouth!!

Hope you enjoy!

When chocolate calls, I make brownies! They are a far better chocolate alternative to anything you can find in the store and are a great Easter treat! These brownies are grain-free and refined sugar-free, sweetened instead with dates and honey!

Since we're talking "treat" and not "snack" (big difference at our house!), I would have to say Easter Cupcakes! We love to mix up a quick batch and let the kids go wild decorating. It's like a craft they get to eat! I keep cake mixes on hand, substituting the oil it calls for with the same amount of melted butter - it makes a big difference in the flavor.
We actually made Easter cupcakes earlier today with some pretty pink baking cups, flower basket cupcake wrap-arounds, peeps, candies & sprinkles. It was really fun and delicious! http://www.thewickednoodle.com/easter-cupcakes/

Have your kids shape dinner rolls (frozen or homemade) into bunny backsides or bunny "butts" for Easter dinner. They will giggle at the name and have so much fun making them!
