im making a large all minke blanket for my sister's baby. well im hand stitching on the binding so there no stitches show and i've done a bit of it and laid it ut and realized that some areas ripple, im undoing it to do again but is there any way to keep the minke from stretching as i stitch on the binding? ive never done a minke blanket where one side wasnt another fabric... thanks!

honestly, i couldnt make a blanket for my kids without one side being minkie. have i? yes, quilts. but blankets, even some are hand quilted, i have used minkie on the back. otherwise they just arent loved as much. lol. its worth the extra bucks in my openion.

oh and yall i decided to add a layer of flannel in between the layers. and though i didnt want to it actually worked well and added even more weight which after considering it i realized it wasnt a bad things since my sister lives where its colder than here in my nook of texas. lol.

anyways, just thought id share. it lays completely flat. im sure if i learned to sew the binding better im sure i wouldnt need a more sturdy layer. im pretty particular how i hand sew it on but i must have been doing something wrong with it the first time. oh well. maybe i'll give it another try when i have more patients im just happy my nephew can now enjoy his blanket!

what is a minke?

a very soft fabric.  I know it's not cotton, but I forget what it's made of.  But it is so luxurious feeling.  Quilt stores like to charge somewhere like $12 a yard for it, but if you're careful, you can find it at $8.  Seriously, you need to feel it.

I did an all Minke blanket once. I found the best way to prevent a lot of stretching or bunching was to use the stretch stitch feature on my machine. Even then there were a few rippled spots. I haven't tried it by hand before though. I imagine it could be quite a challenge. Good luck! You will have to post pictures of your finished work. :)
