Raising Free Range Kids

A community for all those mom's who are proud to be raising "Free Range Kids". Who believe in allowing children to explore, play and even *gasp* make mistakes and fall down. This movement was started by Lenore Skenazy, the mom who let her 9 year old ride home on the subway alone, thus earning herself the title of "America's Worst Mom". I, however, couldn't disagree with that term more. I think she is a great mom, a very intelligent woman and she is most definitely onto something and i couldn't agree with her more. In fact, I applaud her for knowing her child, trusting her child and not succumbing to all the "stranger danger" hype. By being overprotective we are stifling and stunting our child's independence and confidence. Why is it, that while we live in a safer world then ever before, are we more afraid then ever? If you want to give your child the pleasure of a real childhood and free play, and raise a street smart, reasonable, intelligent and happy child in the process, then Free Range is the way to go. So whether you are die-hard free range or a "helicopter mom" who is trying to let go, if you long to raise a child who can enjoy the same freedom and unstructured play that you probably did, this is the community for you:) For more info check out the official Free Range Kids website: http://freerangekids.wordpress.com/
