I think 4 months is very early for food,  I was told to wait until 6 months and start only rice cereal then later on stage 1 foods like applesauce or sweet potatoes.  I know that you don't want to mix a bunch of stuff together when you are introducing new foods because you want to make sure they don't have a serious allergic reaction.  So they say one type of food at a time.

i started my son on rice cereal, just a few tspns @a time, and after a while i started introducing pureed foods, i found he didnt like sweet potato (alot of kids dont) but tothis day he still loves carrots and butternut

Avocados and bananas mash easily  - you can add a little water. Natural applesauce is also good.

Cant beat simple things like apple & pear or mango & apple.  In the UK you have to avoid quite a lot of foods til 6 months so do check, strawberries is one of them as are meat & fish.  Good luck.  The Annabel Karmel baby & todler meal planner book is excellent & well worth the money.

I gave my daughter regular cereal (mini wheaties) with smashed bananas and formula... also started boiling a piece or carrot, potatoes and a piece of chicken with just a pinch of salt almost none! and once they were cooked just blend them then in a small pan cook with formula (breast milk) she loved it! she was picky so had to do it fresh everyday and just mix vegetables .
