My husband is driving me batty wanting to have biscuits and gravy!

Does anyone have a good recipe that they could share? I'm thinking I could just make scones for biscuits, but because I don't eat gravy I have no idea how to make it. While I think there's milk and flour, I'd be lost with the rest.

Any advice/recipes would be great!

easiest gravy recipe ever:

take breakfast sausage- brown and add flour to cover all the meat with just a light dusting, mix meat up and make sure the flour is incorporated in to the meat, then add heavy whipping cream until meat is just covered.... bring to a boil then remove from heat... DONE.

Brown a package of bulk sausage. Drain and save the grease. Put the grease back in the pan with an equal amount of flour. Stir together until it is the consistency of paste. Add a little milk, stir well (a whisk help keep lumps down), and let it thicken (keep stirring); repeat until the gravy is a consistency you like. Stir the sausage back in and serve over biscuits. Add salt and pepper to taste.
We like buttermilk biscuits best with it, but baking powder biscuits go well too. Bisquik is fast and easy.

The best gravy to my mind is made with no recipe. Just use the meat grease from breakfast, add spoons of flour to make a roux and lightly brown it while stirring to keep consistency. Add milk slowly while stirring. As it thickens to a "white sauce" thickness, keep stirring. Turn off fire and stir a bit more. For biscuits, the Bisquick recipe is good. Scones are just a bit too sweet.

Is he talking about the breakfast thing of biscuits and sausage gravy. My family loves it ,so I make it quite frequently.I don't have a recipe,I just dump;but I could give you a close idea. Sometimes I make homemade biscuits, but my kids love boughten biscuits,so I often buy them.Either the frozen ones,or the refrigerated biscuits that you can just stick in the oven and bake em. The gravy is really quite easy.Get a pound of bulk sausage, fry it up.Once it is all browned, add about 2 Tbs. butter (depending on your sausage, you might have enough of fat that you don't really need the butter;but I like the more lean sausage so I add butter).Sprinkle about 1 cup of flour over the sausage;stir.Keep it over medium heat; Then slowly start adding milk.I'm not exactly sure how much I use,I just pour the milk in slowly, stirring all the while as it cooks, and keep adding milk until it is the desired consistency. Some people like it thicker,I prefer mine not to thick.I'm guessing I use somewhere around 5 cups of milk. Then add salt, pepper, seasoned salt,or your seasonings of choice,to taste. Some people like to add extra sage. Ladel the gravy over your biscuit and enjoy your wonderful meal!!

This gravy, mainly oven fried chicken breast. I mainly do a non-milk gravy for holidays. It is basically the same thing only 1 cup broth and no milk. I make my SIL a gluten free one with corn starch, it is a bit more runny, but tastes the same.

Bonny, I'm on her fb page and didn't even think of it! D'oh!

Brittany, that sounds so easy! If you don't eat biscuits, what do you put the gravy on?

Gravy is pretty simple, it is about technique more that ingrediants.

Most country gravy I've had has been sausage gravy. But you can make it with chicken stock or broth.

2 Tbs butter (unsalted it better)
2 Tbs flour
1/2 cup chicken broth
1/2 cup milk (whole is best, but it works with skim)
Salt and pepper

Melt the butter in a heavy bottom pot, once it is melted wisk in the flour. Make sure to sprinkle the flour in so that you don't get lumps. Cook the mixture on meduim heat until it begins to smell slightly nutty. The color with slightly change.

Slowly wisk in the chicken broth and milk, bring to an almost boil stirring constantly. Reduce to low, and allow to thicken. You know it is thick enough when it just coats the back of a metal spoon. Add salt and pepper to taste.

For sausage gravy cook up the sausage and add the flour to the sausage fat. I remove to the sausage and measure the fat out to make sure it is the same amount as the flour.

I don't eat biscuts so I can't help you with that part.

Another good website for Southern food is thepioneerwoman.com. She has a cooking section. There are recipes for EVERYTHING on there. I'll be quite surprised if you can't find homemade biscuits and gravy on her website. (And this is making my hungry for my dad's cooking!)

I know you meant a side dish, but it doesn't go with biscuits and gravy. That's all you need around here! :o)

LOL Amy!! I meant cantaloupe or fruit salad make a great side dish!

Sorry I had to laugh about the scones. I live in the south and it is biscuits and gravy and no sliced fruit like one person said. If you can't find a recipe online(the flour and milk recipe), then use the Pioneer brand country gravy mix if you can find it. Homemade is still the best though.

LOL No, Bonny, I'm not in the US... but I am American (grew up in a small logging/farming town, so very familiar with biscuits and gravy but never liked it) with an Aussie husband who fell in love with it when we visited years ago.

Angela, thanks for that link. It looks pretty easy and has a good rating so I'll give it a go.

There really is no equivalent in Australia, which is why I was asking for recipes. The closest thing I could think of to a biscuit (which is what we call cookies here) are scones, but they aren't flaky like biscuits. And white sausage gravy doesn't exist here! Well, white gravy doesn't exist in any form.

Oh! I didn't realize you aren't in the US! That puts a kink in my above mentioned idea... I would have to agree with Angela. Start at allrecipes.com. You can usually find something easy and tasty there!

If you are not used to making gravy from scratch, go to the grocery and get the Pioneer brand white gravy mix -- it should be with the taco seasoning and other mixes that come in envelopes. All you have to do is add water and cook on the stovetop (directions on the package). It's very easy and pretty good! Wal-Mart brand frozen biscuits are good, too, if you don't want to cook from scratch or if you're just in a hurry. Good luck!

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/drop-biscui...

This recipe should do the trick!! It makes 4 servings but there is a drop down box to convert the recipe to make more!

Sliced cantaloupe or a fruit salad always goes well with biscuits and gravy :)

Enjoy :)

Funniest thing is he only had it ONCE when we visited the US back in 2006! All of a sudden he comes out asking about it.
