Chocolate Cherry Bars

1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour

1 c. sugar

1/4 c. baking cocoa

1 c. cold butter

1 egg, slightly beaten

1 tsp. almond extract

1 can (21 oz.) cherry pie filling

2 c. (12 oz) semi sweet chocolate chips

1 c. chopped almonds


In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar & cocoa. Cut in butter until the mixture is crumbly. Add egg & almond extract until blended. Set aside 1 c. for topping. Press remaining crumb mixture into a 13x9x2 baking pan. Carefully top with pie filling. Combine chocolate chips, almonds & reserved crumb mixture; sprinkle over pir filling.

Bake @ 350* for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack. Refrigerate at least 2 hours before cutting.
