It's easier for me to put something in the crockpot the night before then let it cook all day, rather than running around trying to throw something together, and watching my 3 kids before my husband gets home from work. I need some new recipes, and would appreciate all input:) thanks

My new favorite recipe is Pork chops + 1 can cream of mushroom soup + 1 can water + 1 package of dry onion soup mix. On high for 4 hours is plenty or slow all day would be fine. With mashed potatoes, rice or egg noodles. My kids even love it!

I use my crock pot several times a week and keep coming back to these two books: The Everyday Low-Carb Slow Cooker Cookbook (Broihier and Mayone) and 200 Low-Carb Slow Cooker Recipes by Dana Carpender. The meat loaf and pot roast recipes I use quite a bit. I have also tried a few chicken dishes. They are the only versions of meat my boys will eat! Crock potting a roast is great, especially if you can get one on sale. Have it with sweet potatoes and broccoli the first night; the next night make shredded beef tacos; the next night have BBQ beef sandwiches. Saves $$ and time!

spaghetti sauce

during the summer when my garden is going crazy i use all fresh
other wise

8 cans of diced tomatoes

put 3 cans in the blender and turn them in to juice

put the juice and the rest of the tomatoes in a crock pot

sometimes i ground up hamburger and put it in also

1-2 garlic cloves finely chopped

1 teaspoon of basil (either fresh or dried)

1/2-1 onion shopped finely

i let it cook all day in the crock pot

and season to taste with
oregano (a little goes a long way)
sage
cilantro
chives
thyme
salt
pepper
i usually just do a dash or two of these and usually don't use salt and pepper

also you can find diced tomatoes with the seasonings already in them, but i never do
unless they are cheaper, then you don't need all the seasonings.

i just finished posting this somewhere else :) slow cookers are wonderful things and this book really helped me right after my second daughter was born.
"you MUST get the canadian living slow cooker collection recipe book. i use mine atleast twice a week for mains, and 2 or 3 times for desserts and sides. here's my five-year-old's fave:
Sausage sloppy joes makes 8 servings use 3.5-5.5 quart/litre slow cooker
1 lb sweet italian sausages
2 tbs vegetable oil
1 lb lean ground beef
3 onions (we're not onion people so i use 6 shallots)
4 cloves of garlic
4 cups sliced mushrooms
1 sweet red pepper, chopped
2 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tomato paste
1 28 oz/796 ml can tomatoes (i use crushed or diced so you can skip the fork part)

Remove casings from sausages. in large skillet, heat half of the oil over med-high heat; saute sausage meat and beef, breaking up with fork until crumbly and no longer pink, about 8 mins. using slotted spoon, transfer meat to slow cooker.
drain fat from skillet; add remainign oil. saute onions, garlic mushrooms, red pepper, oregano, salt and pepper over med-high heat until veggies are softened, about 8 mins. stir in tomato paste; cook for 2 mins.
scrape onion mixture into slow cooker along with tomatoes. using fork break up tomatoes into bite sizes pieces. stir to combine.
cover and cook on low until sauce is thick enough to mound on spoon, about 4-6 hours.
serve on buns (we use whole wheat 'cause we're sneaky) with carrot and celery sticks and crunchy pickles.
enjoy!"

Any help with recipes would be great. I've owned a crock pot for several years and never used it. Hate to say this but, I'm intimidated by a household utensil. Too bad it wasn't the vacumm.

Pork shoulder, Beef Brisket and other cuts of beef can be simply put in the crock pot with BBQ sauce (homemade or bottled) and a little bit of water. Cook on low 10-12 hours or on high 7 or 8 hours. In the last 1-2 hours of cooking, you can put some canned beans in the BBQ Sauce (I like Great Northern or other white beans). You will have Pulled Pork (or beef) sandwiches. Just shread the meat (and add a little more BBQ sauce if you like) get some whole grain buns. Scoop out the beans and you'll have BBQ'd baked beans. Serve with salad or a plate of fresh veggies and ranch.
