"Fancy" Kid Friendly Recipes

[deleted account] ( 4 moms have responded )

My daughter (4 years old) has requested a "fancy" birthday party. Kids and adults alike will be wearing suits and gowns (or old bridesmaid dresses!!! *winks*). I am looking for ideas for snacks/dinner that appear to be fancy to a group of four year olds, but are still kid friendly. Any ideas? Would love some advice.

I made hors-d'oeuvres using cherry tomatoes, a cube of cheese and a cucumber speared with a toothpick.
As a kid I made pb&j pinwheel sandwiches by cutting the crust off white or brown sandwich bread and rolling it flat with a rolling pin. Smear pb&j, roll it and slice it.

I would do finger foods, like tea party food. Mini quiches, finger sandwhiches, spirals (flour tortillas smeared with cream cheese, then with ham and cheese, roll up and slice, garnish with olives or green peppers), deviled eggs, bruschetta, all finger foods. You could even try to make faux caviar with tapioca pearls (tinted with food dye) on a bed of cream cheese on a cracker. Good luck, sounds like fun!!
