I babysit for a little one who is right around thee same age as your daughter and she loves those little puffs that gerber puts out. they are tiny and melt really quickly. You can also find them in generic form as well (Target and Walmart each make them). She also loves bits of bananas, cheerios, little bits of cheese, and cooked elbow maccaroni.

My daughter has her 2 bottom teeth too and I have started giving her small pieces of very ripe fruit. So far she likes banana, peaches, and plums. I want to try cheetios but I'm not sure how well she would be able to chew them until she has more teeth

the first thing i gave both my son and daughter were cheerios, and little kids really seem to like them...also i gave my daughter gerber yogurt melts because they melted in her mouth and since she only has 2 teeth i didnt need to worry about her having to chew them or having her choke

Does she have teeth yet? Just curious. I started by giving mine dry rice krispies but she was a little older. Once she did well we started cheerios. Other than that, very small banana chunks, cheese, peas, buttered toast, grapes (I cut one large grape into eight pieces, so...small :), grean beans, anything you can steam or cook till very soft and cut small. We had to put just a few at a time on her tray or she'd grab a handful!

thanks everyone. bella use to do the chocking thing but never that bad. i had to tip her down and pat her back to dislodge what was stuck they get use to the sucking and chewing. we are doing the pureed veges as well the next lot i make will be mashed which is tomorrow nights job. she just likes to feed herself at lunchtime so that she thinks she is a big girl hence why i was trying to get some ideas cause i cant keep giving her the same thing every day at lunch time trying to give her a range of things to try

My little girl is 6.5 months too, shes loving pureed potato, carrots, green beans, kumara (i dont know what its called in other countrys- sweet potato? not yams tho) apples, pear etc. she also loves chewing on pieces of apple and crusts.
(Silverbeet/spinach isnt recommended until 7 months because of the fiber content on their immature bowels. same for corn etc. )
I puree a large lot ( a few cups each vege) and freeze small portions in ice cube trays - so i can mix and match flavours. But as she starts to eat more I'll use muffin tins or ziplock bags.
The next step for us is mashing rather than pureeing, so she learns to enjoy different textures and chew soft lumps - and introducing meats and a wider variety of veges.

Here in NZ we have Plunket who support families with young ones/under 5's - they have great resources! check out the link below for a guide to introducing solids.

Quoting Angela:

I'm starting solids with my little guy too. He loves the gerber cheese puffs. Also you can try little pieces of scrambled eggs. They are soft and easy for them to eat.

except that whole eggs arn't recommended before 1yrs, egg yolk is ok but not egg white - so make your omelettes/scrabled eggs with just the yolks.

apple in muslin is great too  especially if its cold from the frigde - great for teething :)

my daughter is also 6.5 months, and I tried giving her finger foods last week on the recommendation of my health visitor as the weaning hasn't been going so well, and I had a very scary choking incident, I have given her finger food twice now, and also gave her a blended mac n cheese with spinach (so had small bits in) and each time have had the same scary choking incidents (she gags and gags, eyes roll and water and go red), any advice pls, as your babies seem to be ok with solids food rather purees.......???!

ta v much :o)

Gerber has a great line called graduates and they have a lot of finger foods and snacks that dissolves in the mouth and soft textures you dont have to worry about chocking. Good Luck!

My son is the same age and loves to feed himself also. His favorites are ritz crackers and small peices of bannana. If you go to ur grocery store they have those fresh food eatter. It has a little mesh bag attached to a ring that you can put food like grapes or bannanas and your baby wont choke because any big peices stay in the pouch.
