Hey!

I have never made asparagus before, and I am planning on trying to make some for a family get together as another veggie, but I have no idea how to prepare it or what I should add to it, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Roasted asparagus is good and easy.  The end of the asparagus is kind of tough, so you want to take one and snap off the end (where it bends naturally if you try to "bend" the stalk in half).  Then cut the remaining asparagus in the bunch to the same length.  Then put them in a single layer on a cookie sheet.  Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.  Set it in a 350 degree oven until tender, about 20 minutes.

Another idea that's more involved is Lemon-Dill Asparagus.

You'll need: 1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed; 1 cup water; 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice; 1/2 cup chicken broth or dry white wine; 1 tablespoon dried dill; 1 lemon, sliced; 1 fresh dill sprig.  For the sauce you need: 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 teaspoon dried dill

Combine asparagus, water, lemon juice, and wine (or broth) in a large skillet.  Cover and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

Cook asparagus for about 3 minutes.  Add dried dill and cook about 2 minutes longer.

Drain asparagus and place on a serving platter.  Garnish with lemon slices and dill sprig.

Meanwhile, for sauce, combine mayonnaise, lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon dried dill in a small bowl.  Mix well and serve alongside asparagus.

Good luck!  Asparagus is great (even though it makes your pee smell funny).
