I have an almost nine year old daughter. All the ideas that I have read are great. If there are things to do in the community take her. No opera of course but time at the library for the reading program. Swimming is always a blast. Zoo's are way fun. Most important ask her what she might want to do. Give her your ideas and see what she says. Laugh, laugh, laugh!!! That is what she will remember.

Play dress up, in mom or your clothes & heels. Do her hair, nails and make up. Make sure to take a picture that she can save. It will give her a laugh when she gets older.

Color eggs! It doesn't have to be Easter--the kids really get a kick out of it when you do something out of the norm. My 9 year old also LOVES to help in the kitchen.

I am watching a 9 year old as well and she is obsessed with this peanut-butter play-dough, bring out some cookie cutters and I even find myself sneaking little tastes. If peanut allergies are an issue there are cashew and almond butter also that would work.

Peanut-Butter Play-Dough

1 Cup Peanut Butter

1/2 Cup Honey

2 Cups Powdered Sugar

Mix all ingredients in a bowl using hands, Dough should feel soft and pliable. When not in use dough must be stored in an air tight container.

Also during the week plan things out have at least two days where you go to the playground and make sure that there is at least one thing each day that is something for them to remember, they could help you make cookies, a cake, there could be making paper dolls, or colidascopes out of toilet pepper rolls, as long as there is one really fun thing to do, I found that after lunch is good it gives them something to look forward to, they think that that day was a blast. Hope this helps, and good luck.

Homade Play dough!! Who doesn't love it no matter what age!? Especially if it's homemade! Go on-line and just put in homemade play dough there are lots of recipes that are not expensive, we use this at school all the time! Really good for a rainy day!

Crafts and sports with all of them but be sure to give the 9 year old a little alone time, maybe reading to herself or perhaps reading aloud to the boys.
