Hello. I am new to recipe swap but not COM. I would love to start making my own breads, but I am not sure where or how to begin. I am pretty good at following a recipe. If you have any advice or any bread recipes (I don't need a banana bread recipe, I do have a good one of those) I would love them, especially for "sandwich" loaf bread. I appreciate all help in advance!

I have a fool proof recipe for white bread and it makes 3 loaves at a time

5 1/2 c Hot water (I just run my hot water tap until its hot)
1 Tbsp salt
2 Tbsp yeast (i just buy the stuff for breadmakers, it works for everything)
6 Tbsp white sugar

Mix together in a BIG bowl, until everything is dissolved, then add a 1/4c oil (veggie oil works, I find olive oil gives it a different taste), mix in. Let this sit for 10-15 min, until it starts to look like a sponge in the bowl. Now add 10 cups of all purpose flour, adding a sprinkle here and there as you need it. Knead for 10 min, then cover with a towel and let rise for an hour and a half, then separate into 3 greased loaf pans and let rise for 45 min, throw it in the oven at 350 for 30 min and you have 3 loaves of fresh white bread. :D enjoy

You can't go wrong when two ladies who don't know one another recommend the same recipe!

Lora,
So glad you mentioned that Cook Book. It's the one I use and it's literraly falling apart. Just made the Fruit Filled COffee Cake tonight which the family went nuts over. I couldn't have it, not for another 3 weeks. Anyhow the bread recipe in there is what I wanted to write out for her, but haven't the time yet to write that one down. It's long and the pictures I think would help her out.

Lora,
Thank you. I have never made my own bread before (except banana bread), and I am just not sure where to start. I will look for the checkerboard Betty Crocker cookbook at a used book store.

The best bread recipes that I have found are out of the old red and white checkerboard Betty Crocker cookbook. I have been making my own bread for quite some time (over 30 years). Their recipes are easy to follow and taste good! I would gladly answer any questions that you might have in regards to making bread!

I am heading out to pick up kids and appointments. But when I return I can write out another recipe from one of my cookbooks.

Thank you Francesca.
I do use allrecipes.com, and I do like it. I guess I had just never thought about looking for ideas for making my own bread there. Like you said, I do think it's important to check out the reviews too! Thanks for all of your help!

I love making homemade bread! So I am determined to you getting the same chance. Here is a link for a recipe I found you: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Crusty-Whit...
AllRecipes.com is my go to for all recipes. I am not sure if you've used it, But I do all the time. When ever I have that hankering to make something new from chicken fried rice, tamales, breads, cookie, etc...someone else out there has made it and other's have reviewed it. So when you go to the site, and you find a recipe make sure you also read the reviews left by others. I feel they are almost as important as the recipe itself. Let me know if this works. I have a cookbook that also has recipes. I can send those if you still can't find one to use.

Francesca,
I do not have a bread machine. I was thinking of going without. Any advice?

Do you have a bread machine? Or are you doing this without?
