My son is 8 1/2 months and I always feel bad for eating around him, even when i am feeding him baby food as I eat. He always reaches for my plate....I was just wondering when it was safe to start letting him eat off of my plate?

As long as their isn't alot of salt or sugar in what you're eating there's no problem with it my son eats what we eat. My son is nearly 8 months we normally give him wheat bix for breakfast but he still like to have some of our toast and what ever else we eat. He chews it fine.

As long as the food is ground into puree and not heavily spiced theres no reason your son couldn't eat what you do. I purchased a bullet blender with the jar you can serve/drink from & use it quite often. I have 2 grandchildren 6 month & 8 month & plan o using that for them for Easter dinner. I'm cooking everyting the day before so just puree theres at the same time I"m doing everyting else. You could use a food processer too to gring the foods or regular blender

He is defintely showing signs of being interested! My son was fully on table food by 10 months, but even when I fed him my own homemade or store bought baby food, I ALWAYS added seasonings to it. I didn't want him to get used to bland and boring foods. Following the allergy guidelines and when to introduce certain foods, just cut up into little bits what it is you're eating, spread it out on his tray and let him have at it! My son's favorite foods at that age were cooked egg yolks with cheese and toast with avocado spread on it and cut up into really tiny bites. A great website to check out: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/

I started my 8 1/2 mon old on real food around 6 mon i bought a hand food grinder (in the baby aile) and she eats whatever we r having from veggies to meats. I did my son the same way he is 2 yr now if we r having something to spicy for her i will add her veggies to some baby cereal or jar food to make it thicker
You know when they r ready to eat

As soon as my son started watching my husband and I take our food from our plates into our mouths at around the end of 3 months, we started to let him try little mashed up bits of whatever we were eating... some things he was too sure about, but he absolutely loved bananas and applesauce... and he has been able to eat regular food since then and is perfectly healthy... I think if he is interested then that would be the time to go ahead and let him try... He'll go at his own pace and will let you know what he does and doesn't like.

We started feeding our kids at around 5/ 51/2mo (they wre big babies and were hungary). We always have made their food, from purees to chunky foods, to now what we eat for dinner. Be aware of what the baby food jars have as ingredience. If you look at carrot puree label the first thing is water!! I have never put water in my carrot ( or other veggie) puree!! I just steam and puree. There isn't any need for all this water in baby food. Have you tried the store baby food jars yourself? It is terrible! (even the organic ones) It is no wonder my little one didn't want to eat it when I had ran out of the food I made her.

my son started eating "real foods" at 4 months (rice cereal and jarred baby food). he took to it like a champ. at 6 months i started table food like mashed potatos, millet, rice porridge, noodles etc. you can let your baby try things from your plate. rule of thumb usually is if you can smash the food in the top of your mouth fairly easy with your tongue, it will be easy for baby to eat.

I started all my kids with mashed potatoes and gravy at the age of 3 mos..I know the dr recommends no 'real' food until 12 mos. but I think that is a waste of money and ridiculous. I agree with not giving them peanut butter or strawberries until two to prevent an allergy from developing though but from mashed potatoes it was anything i felt was soft or mushy enough to allow the swallowing reflex and the throat muscles to be able to handle.I had my first child 25 yrs ago and my last one just 6 yrs ago..they are all healthy

i started sharing my plate of food when my daughter was 6mo old and she is now 9 months old. my doc told me the way u can tell if ur baby can have the food is if u can gum it then ur baby can eat it. it also all depends on how well ur baby eats too. my daughter amazes me on what she can eat. she started showing intrest in real food at 3 months. she only has 2 bottom teeth and she can eat stuff from the gerber graduates that says toddler.
