• This Sesame-Ginger Seared Ahi Tuna is the first meal I ever made for my husband when we were dating. Every time I make it for us, it always takes me back to that exciting time in our lives of new love. It isn't over complicated, but definitely a special meal with lots of thought and flavorful components. I like to make this dinner on the anniversary of our first date and we always open a special bottle of wine and talk about the night we met.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh sushi-grade ahi tuna steaks
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/8 tsp cracked black pepper
  • For the sauce:
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon grated fresh ginger root
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons water

Preparation

  1. Rinse and pat dry the tuna. In a small bowl combine olive oil, sesame oil, lemon juice, ginger, soy sauce, salt & pepper. Whisk ingredients to combine. Dip both sides of tuna steaks in mixture and place in a food storage bag. Pour remaining mixture into bag and let marinate for one hour.
  2. In the meantime, whisk together sauce ingredients and set aside to allow flavors to marry.
  3. Spray a non-stick skillet with cooking spray and heat pan over medium heat. Place steaks in pan and pour remaining marinade over steaks. Cook first side approximately 2-3 minutes depending on thickness of steak. Turn steaks and cook 2 minutes making sure not to overcook steaks.
  4. Serve over brown rice and top with sauce. Remaining sauce can be refrigerated and used as a salad dressing.
