I hope this helps, im a natural red and so is my husband. Our son will be 1 in may and he is alllll red lol. full head of it. but if ur child isnt red red then i bet that it will have to be no lighter that auburn

My Mom is a light brunette, and my Dad is jet black...I was born strawberry blonde, and throughout my years - became 'red'. I gave birth to two beautiful boys, whom are red-heads...and their Dad is dirty-blond. The only other living 'red' in my family is Aunt...and we are the only two (not including my boys) besides my (her Great) Great-Great Grandmother......whom was full-Irish. Genes:)

Me, and my brother & sister have red hair. My brother has 1 redhead out of 4 kids, My sister has 2 kids both blonde & I got 3 out of 3, all Redheads. None of our partners are Redheads. It's Just Luck.

Well, most men have red in their facial hair...not sure why. But, you still have a 1/4 chance of baby with red hair. He may have people in his family with red hair that you don't know about that could up your chances though. Good luck!

My sister and I have red hair the only one's other then my father's grandfather. I have a 3 year old girl with red hair and what my doctor told me was in order to get a red head both parents have to carry the red head gene. And this is why red heads are going extinced because of the mixed marriges.

okay the problem with red heads is that it has to be in bothe jeans to get it.. like me im a red head but my daughter had light brown hair because her fathers side does not have red hair. that is the reason why they are going instinct because they r so rare.. suckz but it is true!!

I have red hair, and the father of my child has black hair. When our son was born, he had black hair. He is 5 months old now, and now his hair has turned red. I think your chances of another redhead in your house are pretty good!! Congrats!! We need more natural red heads in this world!!

Red hair is dominant... I have red hair, and it runs on my side of the family though, So when my daughter was born she had dark brown hair, as she got older now she is 2 she has Dirty blonde with hints of red, like strawberry blonde but alot of brown wit the prettiest blue eyes you'd ever meet.. Very good....redheads run on both sides of our family. But strongest on my side. Both of my kids are redheads and i wouldn't want it any other way...They, of course, got blessed with my social outgoing personality- and are really funny!! Poor daddy...People say they look mostly like me, but i think they are a perfect BLenD!!

i hope you get a redhead. my husband has a red goe-tee when he has one, funny huh?

My Dad was a redhead, my Mom had auburn hair, my maternal Grandmother was redhead. Out of 6 kids, there are two redheads, myself and my youngest brother....I married a Native American and when I got pregnant, everyone was trying to guess what color hair the baby would have instead of the sex of the baby...I had three children and they all have shades of brown hair with lots of red highlights....I have 6 grandchildren and none of them are redheaded....I even told my kids that whoever had the first redheaded baby...would inherit all my wealth...now I just spending it on myself, not a redhead in the bunch.......but I'm happy they are all healthy....Rusty G.

I too am the only family member with red hair. I am the youngest of 4. I think my paternal grandfather may have had red hair as a child. My 2 children came out with black hair as their father was Mexican. Now my son has 3 kids. Oldest son is blonde hair, blue eyes, the girl looks like me with very red hair & brown eyes. The baby is just turned 1 & until recently last 3 months was redheaded with brown eyes but now hair seems to be changing more brown. Anyway, sounds like that skip a generation rule in effect here. BTW there are no redheads on their mommys side that we know of. It is strange phenomena.

my mum and dad both had brown hair but my aunt had red hair both me and my sis has red hair i married a red head had 2 daughters but only one has red hair she just gave birth 2 a baby girl 4 and half months ago and my grandaughter has lovely red hair good luck

I am the only one out of 9 children with red hair. My mother had blonde and my dad had black. But my gma on moms side was red and gpa on dads side red. I have 3 children 2 boys with blonde hair that has darkened with puberty and they have red in their side burns and a daughter with dark brown and red tint in the sun. Hope you have a healthy baby. I too am the only person with red hair in my family other than my nephew. My son who is 4 does not have red hair, but my daughter who was just born 2 months ago, has a red tint to her hair, and I do believe she will follow in my foot steps. I believe the odds of your child having red hair is very high, especially since the father has red sideburns. My sister, who has brown hair, and the father of her son, has brown hair but their little boy has the most amazing red hair I have ever seen.

i have a friend who has mousy brown hair, but her hubby is flame-headed. ALL 4 of their children have his firey locks. BUT, in our house, i have red hair, my hubby is Dark Irish w/the black hair, and red sideburns/beard, and his grandmother is a redhead (and i have a redheaded uncle) - my 3 kids? Yeah the odds for a red head is almost impossible it seems for me... I had three children and not one of them have red hair. I ended up with 2 blondes and a brown haired baby...

i have 4 sons all with different shades of red my husband and i have red hair also. the generation thing is true my husbands gran had red hair but on my fathers side it was 6 generations back! my sister and brother both have coarse curly reds were as mine is shiny and staight , my sister has 7 kids and not 1 are red heads they are blonde and dark and her husband has black hair!! so it really is weather you both have the genes ... good luck with it all .

I am the only redhead out of a family of 7 children.My grandfather on me mothers side was the only redhead in her family.I am grown now with 2 children of my own,both girls,1 with JET BLACK hair (like her father) and one with BRIGHT FIREY RED hair like me.Its a toss up on the color of your unborn child's hair, some say the mom determines the chericteristics (such as thickness,Weather it will be curly or straight, weather or not the child will go bald as an adult,things of that nature) of the hair.I believe this to be true,although it has been priven that red hair is a "birth defect" of sorts.RED hair is caused by a lack of a certain pigment at birth, which is why most redheads are light complected or fair skinned.This is also why most children born with red hair start to "fade out" or change to chestnut or brownish at an early age. SO if you are a true redhead there is a good chance that your child will be also,if he or she has your features ,.though if he she comes out lookin like daddy the probibility of red hair is less likley though not impossible. So good luck and regardless of your childs hair color I wish for you a healthy happy baby that gets all the love and affection he or she could ever need and then some. Children are a blessing that many have yet few really deserve. The recessive gene thing is totally correct- I tried looking into when my son was born. He is 4 months old, and we still have no idea what color his hair will be. I am a redhead. My mom was born a redhead, but her hair darkened in puberty. My husband had blonde then brown hair, but he's been balding since high school. My son has dark eyelashes, blonde eyebrows, and a reddish-brown-blonde mix with his current hair!

My grandfather was a redhead, then it skipped a generation, I got the red hair. No one in my husbands family is a redhead. Out of our 5 children, the youngest three are redheads. go figure!

Yep, red hair is a recessive gene; meaning that if you have red hair both your mum and dad at least have red hair as a recessive gene and had a minimum of a 1 in 4 chance of having a child with red hair. You can't know what colour your childs hair will be. You know that at least you have one red gene and you don't know what your other hair gene is, and you don't know what the baby's father has as a recessive gene. You will just have to wait and see!

from what i learned when i had bio in high school, red hair is recessive - meaning it's gotta be a recessive gene on both sides to get a redhead.....it also means that if you have red hair typically it will skip a generation......BUT I have red hair and we have no idea where red hair comes from on my husband's side and we have a cute little redhead 8 month old right now.....I think it's just mother nature's way of making sure we don't go extinct (some study says the last redhead will be born in like 2020 or something like that)

Red hair is very strong in my side of the family, but I'm the only one in my immediate family who has it. My husband only had 1 great grandparent with red hair, and our daughter was born with a head of copper! My friends son has strawberry blonde hair, but her hair is dark and the father only has some red in his facial hair. I'd say if the father of your baby has red side burns, and you red hair, your baby might very well have it!

My doctor told me that in order to have a redhead child the gene has to be with both parents. And that's why redheads are going exstinced. My sister and I have red hair I have to girls and only my younger daught has the red hair to die for. So it's a luck.

I just had my baby girl one month ago. I was in the same boat as you. I am the only person in my family that has red hair also! I don't know how that happened.. Anyway, turns out my daughter was born with dark hair! It may change, but when I was born my hair was already red, red. I know this doesn't really help you with the odds. But I've also read that baby's tend to get more of their looks from the dads side. It has something to do with helping the father form a stronger bond with his children.
