I do not believe that the Catholic Church is trying to be discriminatory. The church is simply stating that if it will be forced to offer benefits to same sex couples, or other services that go against the belief of the Church it will have to discontinue its contract with the city. It will still offer services to people, but not in a way that makes them have to follow the guidelines set up by this bill. We must remember that the Catholic Church must first and foremost follow the will of God. It cannot make concessions because the world expects it too. I don't believe they are saying they won't hire gays or lesbians. They are simply saying they cannot offer benefits bestowed upon married people to those gay or lesbian couples because it goes against the teachings of the church. This isn't about denying services, it is about maintaining belief. The church must be of God not of the world. If that upsets people, too bad, that is the way of things.

I also read the article and the Catholic church in D,C is wrong, wrong, wrong.
They are attempting to hold ransom, social service programs they provide including to the homeless. They are in fact discriminating based on sexuality and religion.
Perhaps they are not appropriate to be service providers of supports to community if they are going to pick and choose who they serve.

I read the article and I am a little confused about what exactly is happening. If the church is worried about hiring someone who is gay or lesbian, than I have to say I don't agree with that. I feel that there shouldn't be discrimination in the workplace because of sexual orientation. When it comes to the church worrying about having to marry homosexuals, then I would agree with the church, that it violates their beliefs. I feel for everyone to have true religious freedom, then religious views need to be respected.
