I was flipping through the tv channels last night and came across Larry King with guest Joy Behar. First of all, I can't stand Joy. I think she is loud and obnoxious and her voice just grates on my nerves.

Larry asked her if Americans expectations of Obama were too high and she says yes. First of all, two years ago nobody (outside of IL) knew who this guy was. He is the one during the campaign that bragging about hope and change and a better America. He's the one that said that there would be more jobs (started out at two million jobs and somehow turned into 4 mil) for everyone, and better healthcare for everyone, and he'd close Gitmo, and he'd repeal the Bush tax cuts, and he'd stimulate the economy, and he'd have the whole world being our best friend again.

I'm sorry but those are his expectations!!! He is the one that opened his mouth and tried to promise the world to everyone. Well, now people are just waiting to see if he's going to do what he SAID he was going to do. If anyone has high expectations (I certaintly don't) of this guy it's only b/c he set the damn bar so high!

Why shouldn't they be high. Isn't he the one who has been promising all this change and hope? His campaign was built on those two key words. So of course Americans are now going to depend him, have HOPE in him, to create some positive CHANGE. Instead, they are starting to hear about how much they are going to have to sacrifice and work. ha ha!!! Wouldn't you love to shake these people and yell wake up!! He is NOT the Messiah. He is just another politician. He is not a miracle worker. He is just a Democrat. When people realize he is just a mere mortal man, they are going to be surprised.

I totally agree! Can't we just put a pin in all the social issues and just agree to fix the economy? There will be plenty of time to fight about abortion, gay marriage, gitmo and the war. Let's try on finding common ground to get our economy moving again!

I, too was one that was going to give him a chance to go down the middle and also have too much to do with the economy to do much with abortion legislation, etc.  The 2nd day in he dashed my hope faster than I thought he could.  So scary and disappointing.... I don't want my tax money going to foreign countries to perform abortions and giving contraception to those who don't want to be responsible for their actions especially when our country doesn't have the money...460 million if you haven't heard the number.

And one of the 1st ones that needs to go in 2010 is dear Nancy Pelosi...at least get her out as Majority Leader...

They are already contradicting what he promised. He said that lobbyist had no place in his WH and yet he has one on his team. He promised transparency but is already having closed door meetings. I also thought he flipped flopped on sitting down directly with Iran but it seems like that's open for discussion again.

There's no possible way he COULD keep all of those promises. I completely agree with Christa that if all of the promises he gave during his campaign were written down, I'm sure there would be a few that would contradict one another!

He said what people just wanted to hear to get elected.  He isnt going to keep any of those promises.

I think I saw it on CNN, on the day of the inauguaration his approval rating was like 81% and CNN had it down to 63% the day I started this post. Now Fox shows it at 68% but you still have to see that he's had a drop. Maybe some people are waking up!

Ahhhhh!!!!! To end the war is the stupidest thing he could do and I can't believe he doesn't see that!!! Anyone with a little comonscence would see that!!! If we aren't over there, they are def going to come and bring the war to us!!!! I for one want it to stay off the American soil, I do feel horrible for the innocent people that have to live with it there but come on people, they flew into our buildings for peat sake and they won't stop at that if we leave before the job is done then we just make ourselves an open target!!!

Oh and one more thing, I TOTALLY hope that people that voted for him will wake up and see him for what and who is really is and stop being stupid, by voting for a president just because the color of his skin and to make history...didn't and isn't going to help us out any!!!!!

Two nights ago on the Henidy and Colms show was something very interesting and I think that you should check it out. If there is a way to look on the net and view a recorded show, that would be the one to watch..... I love when people can be honest about the guy most American's just voted into office, he may have been voted in but that doesn't mean he is right for the job!!!

I'm holding out hope for 2010 at this point, that enough Republicans will win congressional seats to make it difficult for Obama to pass anything. Because as it is, he's ticking people off way too early in his presidency.

I can't say that I was surprised about what Obama said about Rush because I was not. I do however know that he will never make things happen like he promised in his campaign. I for one hope that he doesn't because if he doesn't maybe people will see through his lies and deciet and won't elect him for a 2nd term. I hope that the few republicans that we still have in congress and senate will grow some and  make sure that some of these things don't get passed.

Quoting Dawn:

Keep up that attitude Obama, and you'll lose people wanting to work with you. Already notice how his poll numbers are slipping?? When he took office his numbers were in the low 80's. Now they are in the low 60's. Hmmmm, maybe people are finally seeing what he's all about.

Really?  I hadn't heard that.  I guess the honeymoon is over.

Yes, I did read that comment! Here's a few lines taken from the brief article on foxnews.com:

"WASHINGTON -- President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.

"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

That wasn't Obama's only jab at Republicans today.

While discussing the stimulus package with top lawmakers in the White House's Roosevelt Room, President Obama shot down a critic with a simple message.

"I won," he said, according to aides who were briefed on the meeting. "I will trump you on that."

The response was to the objection by Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) to the president's proposal to increase benefits for low-income workers who don't owe federal income taxes."

Talk about being smug and self-righteous.

I think it's funny that he just assumes that the Republicans listen to Rush Limbaugh, because if they did McCain would NOT have been the nominee. Throughout the campaign he seemed to be obsessed with Sean Hannity for some reason.

So far, Obama has been in office for a few days, and has shown NO class.

I was reading this article that someone did with a few of the 9/11 widows who said that they voted for Obama b/c they needed a change. I doubt him closing down Gitmo and possibly bringing those terrorists to our shores was the change they had in mind. My husband just said "you have to be careful what you wish for b/c you just might get it."

Think it's funny that he's talking about transparency but is having a closed door meeting with his economic team. Yep that's open, honest, and working as a team.

Anyone else read where he told Republicans that they needed to stop listening to Rush Limbaugh. Translation (IMO): Don't listen to outside forces b/c they are against my views and I can't have that!

It's so typical;  while he campaigned, people talked about Obama as if he were the second coming.  His supporters are the ones who created the hype surrounding him.  Now that he's been elected they're saying expectations are too high.  His promises don't mean squat now - he's already got the job.  And now that he's got it, he has access to the same information GWB used to make his decisions and he's only now gaining an understanding of why things were done the way they were during Bush's presidency.  Obama couldn't speak intelligently of the real issues during the campaing because he didn't have all the information President Bush had - so he just kissed everyone's asses, pandered to his liberal base and the pedestal upon which they put him got taller and taller.  Now they'll say "He's only one man.  He can only do so much."  Well, DUH!

Obama has no one to blame but himself if people expect to much from him.  He kept saying hope and change and then saying everything he was going to do.  He told the anti war groups that he was going to end the war on his first day on the job and he told pro abortion groups he was goint to pass the freedom of choice act on the first day.  He did not give a plan for anything he promised.  People overlooked that because they're idiots.  There is no nice way to say it.  They bought his bs and now he's backtracking on everything he said.  Oh you can't end the war on the first day?  Ya think?  You just now figured out that it takes more than a day to remove all the troops and supplies?  I can't stand obama and my hate for him grows everyday he's in office.

I heard on a christian radio station yesterday that during his campaign he made something like 520 promises. Bush and Clinton made between 150-200 each. There is NO possible way he can keep all of them. In fact if we wrote them all down I'm sure several would be promising the completely opposite things. I was really trying to be optimistic with him, but this last week has been a shot through the heart. I was hoping maybe he would go to the middle and try to find common ground, but this week has made it clear that all I feared during the election is going to come true. I am soo glad they didn't get their 60 in the senate. That would have been disasterous!
