Dear Ladies of this group,

Please read the following article http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/parenting... to see how Texas wants to weaken their Sex Offender Registry, and possibly not comply with The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act (AWA).

You can also go to http://www.senate.state.tx.us/
then click on Senate RealMedia Video Archives at the top of the page
You want to watch the link for "Jun 10 Senate Committee on Criminal Justice" to see the whole hearing.

While I feel that there are areas of the law that need to be fixed to help the teenagers who get caught up in an age technicality, and now have to register as a sex offender; I also feel that the way that Texas wants to go about to help those so called "Romeo & Juliet's" is not the right approach. From my understanding from watching the video Sen. John Whitmire wants Sex Offenders that pose a "low" risk to be able to get off of the registry. These so called "low" risk offenders are people who they feel have a "low" risk of re-offending. As a survivor of Childhood Sexual Abuse I find this very disturbing because people like my abuser (who RE-offended on me for about a year and a half to two years) would be placed in the same category as teenagers who got caught up in a technicality of age. No one knows better than me of what my abuser is capable of, and just because they THINK that he is a "low" risk doesn't make it true.

I also found it rather interesting that Sen. John Whitmire allowed those sex offenders, that where there to speak out against the registry, to speak well past the 3 minutes that he said everyone would have, but when it came to people who were speaking on behalf of victims of sexual abuse he cut them off, and held them to the 3 minute rule. He didn't even give a teenager who is a victim of sexual abuse the chance to talk. Sen. John Whitmire showed more compassion to those who are on the Sex Offender Registry than he did to those who were speaking on behalf of victims of sexual crimes.

I hope that you take the time to read the article, and to watch the hearing.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

There is a group on FB called Justic For Sex Crime Victims (for which I'm a member of) and we right now are doing a "media blitz in the Pursuit of Justice for Sex Crime Victims" to try to bring this issue to light in the media. There are lots of links for people & organizations to e-mail if you or anyone eles are interested. The group is also creating a website of it's own www.justiceforsexcrimevictims.webs.com if you or anyone eles wants to check it out. Thank you for your passion on this.

There are others out there that care about this cause! What we as mothers need to do is protect ouw children And vote this Mr Sen John Whitmire out on his seat!! He is one one in charge of the Crimals let him live with them. He is also the one who called this meeting of the brainless. I for one am not going to stand By and let this happen all because he says it wil cost to much money. How about it mothers are we going to let this stand or are we going to fight for our children. As a side note on al of this when a girl is raped in this state she has to pay for her own rape kit at the hospital and most of the DIstrict Attorney's reuse to take the cases to court yes this is FACT!

I sent an e-mail to Bill O'Reilly, but haven't gotten a response from him. I have sent out lots of e-mails, but have gotten few responses & most of the responses are the typical we'll consider it or telling me to write my senitors. I'm trying to do more research into how the Adam Walsh Act works before writing my senitors, but they will hear from me. I went through way to much to take my case to court so that others could be protected from my abuser to let them give him a chance to get off the list without a fight.

OH Yes, I did see this. This should go to Bill O'Reilly, he gives the 'judges' a hard time when they defend the wrong people...especially sex offenders.

Hopefully, Texas would reconsider reelecting Sen. John Whitmire. There are a lot of stupid Senators who are not for the people (victims)...especially in AZ.

Wow, that's not good. I have signed up for emails so that I get notified whenever a new offender moves into my neighborhood. Luckily a few months ago I was notified that one moved within a mile of me. Now I keep a tight watch on my kids, and it is scary when one moves in your neighborhood.
