I work night shifts and I am a mommy to two little girls, ages 3 and 1. Thank G-d. Anyway, I try and nap with them before a night shift and afterward, my older one is in preschool and my younger goes to the babysitter. Both til 12:30.

How do you handle working the night shift?

God Bless you Momma! You have a busy life with 2 little ones. You sure do not have much time to sleep. Do you work three 12 hour shifts? I work three 12's if Im lucky in a row. My husband works 3- 12 hr shifts, sun, mon, tues on the ambulance as a paramedic, and I try to work the other end of the week- thurs, fri, sat. then there is someone there to take care of the kids while the other sleeps. On the days we work the same days- it really stinks. We take turns on who gets up early to go pick our 3 kids up from school, who go to 2 different schools and get out at different times. There is no bus service where we live in Ca. due to all the budget cuts made to the schools. Last year we paid for after school care until 4:30 so we could sleep. You are going to get burnt out if you don't get a little more sleep. You might have to enlist family help, or trade babysitting with friends. I use the crock pot a lot, to make dinners easier. It will get easier as your kids get older and can do more for themselves. Hang in there , until you can apply for a day shift. While your kids are small day shift is best, but as you and I know, most nurses have to start out on nights to get their foot in the door. Just be careful that you are getting enough rest so you don't get burnt out!
