Jaqueline, if your doing it throug Team In training they have great coaches that will help give you a program.  Good Luck... I am training for one myself w/ Strides for Hope....

Before I got pregnant my goal was to run a 1/2 marathon. Such a great way to get into or back into shape. I didn't run continuously, instead, I would jog/run for 5 mins then walk 1 min. It was easy on my body and prevented injury. It's a good way to get started and makes the training doable!

I ran my first half marathon last oct./07 I just had my 2nd child she is 5 months and my son is 5 yrs.  I am now training for my 2nd half marathon in May/09.  One thing I wish I had done the first time was run a couple of longer runs.  I had only run 3 or 4 15 km runs and wish I had run a couple of 20/21km runs.  Good luck.

I also have my first half marathon in April. I am still 30 kilos overweight from my boy (2 years old) I am doing a 10 week programme for never before runners. It goes by time rather than distance so you get the endurance out of it without having to stress about how far you are doing. I find that much less daunting.

I ran a half before I had my boys. I too need to get back out there. I think I need to get a double jogger so I can go with my kids. I agree about watching for injuries. Increase your miles slowly. Focus on your distance more than your speed. Do as many 5ks and 10 ks as you can before the race. Signing up for smaller races along the way helped keep me on track. Good luck!

I ran my first half marathon this past September. I would recommend running a longer race before hand, I ran a 15K and it definatley helped mentally prepare me. Also, injury is always a problem when increasing mileage. I slowly increased my mileage over 3 months from a 6 mile long run all the way up to 13. Some may say you don't need to do 13 before the race but I can say that I am glad I did. Just be careful of injury...maybe 1-2 13 miles runs before the race is all you need depending on your time. Distance them out... I got all excited about my mileage and ended up injurying myself 2 weeks before my race ( I did 2-10 mile runs in 1 week) I did the race, but it was painful, so stay injury-free and good luck in April...It's a wonderfully awesome feeling to know you can run 13.1 miles! Go for it!
