I also used the Couch to %K program. Another option is a learn-to-run clinic held by a running store or fitness center. Most use the same walk/run interval method.

I'm using the Runner's World 5K running program (not sure what it's called exactly but it's on their website - www.runnersworld.com).  I used that in the past (before I had kids) and was successful.  It's a 10 week program where you work up to running 30 minutes straight.  Good luck!  :)

I did the couch to 5k plan from cool running too! LOL It was my very first start and I signed up for a 5k race right after I finished the plan. I truly loved it because it was a good slow start for a beginner!

I was a sprinter in high school and college. When I graduated from college, I stopped running completely and really missed it. By the time I figured it out - I was out of shape and basically had to start from scratch and figure out how to run further than a 400 m. I started out jogging one minute, walking one minute. Gradually increased my running time and shortened my walking time until I could run 3-5 miles no problem. Worked great for me.

Thanks for the link. I was thinking about doing a program myself, but I think with that start up I can start adding that on to my workouts. I am doing a 5K this weekend. We will see how it goes.

I started running by using the couch to 5K program by cool running. It is a nine week program, but I didn't follow it for the whole nine weeks. I got injured about five weeks in and when I started up again I made my own running plan. It is a great program, though, and well worth checking out.
