I had the Merena IUD and loved it. I didn't have any problems and after the first three months never had another period the entire time I had it. I had it removed, and I am now pregnant. I would do it again. Hope it helps. Good luck!!

2 women in my family had an IUD, both the 5 year one, it caused them alot of pain and infection. One of them has been trying for three years to get pregnant, she has 3 kids already, the youngest is 8 years old, anyway she hasn't been able to get pregnant from all the scar tissue and injuries the IUD caused. The other family member had an infection and had to get it removed, and ended up getting pregnant again before she was ready to start birth control again. She also has 3 kids her youngest is 2 and she ended up getting her tubes tied because she didn't want anymore kids and didn't want to have to go through alot of pain again.

I have had the longer lasting 10yr copper IUD..I love it! I recommend it all the time!
Much better than trying to remember a pill or shoving plasitc rings in yourself =P
A few of my friends have the Merena & like it also..they all don't get a period! =)

I had the IUD put in 3 years back. I must say run from it.. I had nothing but problems after it was taken out. I ended up with pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). I had no idea it was a risk of the IUD. Please ask your dr about it. It was the worst thing.. I better now but It was worse then giving 12 hrs of labor..

I used the mirena iud for almost a year. Had some heavish bleeding initially then was fine for couple months. Then had spotting on and off for several months. Wasnt to bad just got to the point that it was really annoying. Had it removed and now use Depo Provera. We arnt planning on expanding our family so am not worried bout my periods being out of whack if I go off the jab.

Ive had both IUD's before. Im guessing each woman is different because I had extremely heavy and crampy periods with the paraguard. I dealt with it for about 2 years. After my last child I used the Mirena. No problems for about the first 2 years. Light periods and no worries about getting pregnant. Then I was experiencing what felt like labor pains. I thought maybe I could be having a miscarriage. I went to the Dr. and was told that the Mirena gave me an infection in my tubes. It was excruciationg pain that had me doubled over. I dont want to discourage you from trying the Mirena. I was happy for 2 years but i just wanted to give you the heads up. Good Luck =)

I had Mirana placed in June...I HATE it.. Most women that I talk to have had good luck with it. Not me. It has been 9 months now and I am still spotting...Every day!! I am going to have it removed in March. I wish you luck if you decide to go with it!

I have the merena IUD. So far I love it. I am rather lazy and this just works for me. My Hubby doesn't mind either. There were no problems or pain putting it in. I now get slight cramps instead of 'the dreded period pain' once a month AND its eased my very heavy periods (double score!) I have used other contraseption in the past ... and I have two wonderfull kids as proof that they didn't work for me. The marena, however, really works.

It's so interesting reading how different it is for everyone. I have the Merena IUD and my 5 yrs is almost up. I LOVE it! I have absolutely no troubles, I actually forget what it's like to have a period. I have no blood flow, extremely rarely do I feel any menstrual symptoms and they're always mild, and no worry about pregnancy,,,my opinion, you can't beat it. I'd be more concerned about the doctor who's putting it in than the product, it didn't hurt in the slightest to put mine in.

I had the mirena and it caused me BAD stomach pains. I used to cry at times cuz it hurt so bad. I ended up getting a cyst on my ovary, so I just told them to go ahead and remove the IUD at the same time. The only things I liked about it was not worring about getting pregnant and no periods.

I've had an Merena IUD in for about 8 months now and love it!! No worries about getting pregnant and my period has gotten to the point where there really isn't one, just a little spoting...and I mean just like a spot if that, every once in awhile i just have little bit of cramping during that time. but it's great!

I've got the Merena put in back in december. It wasn't bad having it put in but I did notice that I contined to bleed a lot after it. I was told that with the pill you have the medicine that stops you from getting pregnant plus the estrogen that helps regulate your period and bleeding, but with the IUD you only have the meds that some you from getting pregnant. So I guess bleeding for the first few months is pretty normal, and around the 3rd-4th month is slows down and you should get back to normal. I'm 25, and extremely lazy so it works well since I'm sure my husband and i would be expecting again if I wasn't on the IUD. Scarey thought! I'm not having any problem with mine besides the bleeding, and I can live with that. Keep's the husband away for the time beeing! But it's not all the time. It does stop from time to time. Hope this helps!

I had the Merena IUD it caused a severe infection in my uterine lining that was pretty much undetectable until I went to have it removed and had Essure put into place. I am not sure why it took so long to figure out the problem but I dealt with chronic shooting double me over pains for a little over a year and bled off and on that whole time. it wasn't until the Dr.s went inside and could see my uterine lining that they realized something was wrong. Even the tissue samples they took came back with a result of the infection not being to bad but the doc said he didn't know how that could be after what he had seen. I wish that the dr's would have taken what i was telling them more seriously, even the dr who saw pretty much said he didn't think it was as serious as I was describing until he saw it for himself. So just beware.

I have had my IUD for 2 years now and haven't had a single problem. I opted for the Copper T which lasts longer and has no hormones. It was the best option for us, and I couldn't be happier with my decision! Hope this helps!
