Hi, My son will be 7 in December and i can't get him to stop sucking his thumb. He also has a blankie he won't part with. I have tried telling him all sorts of things, about what will happen if he deosn't stop sucking his thumb and that he only has until his 7th Birthday then it really needs to stop. I have been told that he will stop when he wants to stop, i was also told once he started school he would stop.... he didn't! He usually only does it when he is tired, however, now he seems to be doing is when ever he has nothing to do. Please help!

How did you get away with putting something on his thumb without him having an issue with it? I would have to do it when he is asleep, but that would defeat the purpose. Once he is asleep his thumb falls out anyway.

luckily, none of my kids ever sucked their thumbs or took a pacifier. my friend, though, has a 9 yr old daughter and 8 yr old son who suck their thumbs. after stuff like hot sauce and no-bite didn't work, she finally turned to her dentist. her daughter has pretty much stopped, but her son will soon be getting an appliance put in his mouth to make it very difficult to suck.

well it takes 21 days to make or break a habit.....try having the child wear gloves at night...i myself used to be a thumbsucker as a child...my parents tried everything they put tabasco on my thumb well i actually liked the taste & sucked it off....they even tried that thumb sucking stuff you buy at store i forget the name of it ....& my grandmother came up with the idea of having me wear gloves at night for 21 days & it worked...
