My son's father and I haven't been together since he's been born. We were pretty young and things didn't work out for us but we both spend equal time with our son. We verbally agree to just about everything which has been really great. Usually at this time of year we alternate who claims our son. This year of course is not my year and I have a lot of extra's that I know I'm going to have to pay for this year. Is there any way to maximize my income tax even though I'm not claiming my son? Like can I still submit for his summer camp expenses?

Some summer camps are deductible. If you are going to do taxes yourself try the Irs website they have links for good free sites. If you do it in person make sure you speak up and ask about everything like school supplies, educational computer software, after school activities. Good luck. I was pleasantly surprised at our refund this year. There have been some great tax cuts for middle and lower income people and families.
