Is anyone else concerned about their children drinking the school milk?

I am wondering if there are other moms here who are concerned about their children drinking the school milk? I have started sending Jasper to school with soy milk instead because there are no other drink options in many schools besides conventional milk.

Thanks Sapphire. Yeah, I'm just trying to get a feel for how some other parents feel about it. And I definitely understand how difficult it is to eat cleanly these days with out getting some kind of something or other that's bad for you.

I have to say that no, I am really not concerned. Yes, I am aware of all teh extras that go into ALL of our every day food. Unless I purchase my own cow for "fresh fro mthe udder", I have no problem pickin gup a gallon from the grocery store.

Please don't misinterpret my statements as not being un sympathetics to yours. You stated that you already provide your child with an alternative, which is a perfect solution to your concern.

I'm not anti-milk though. If I were, then yes, I'd be concerned with them drinking it at school and would tell them not to and would provide them with something else to drink (as you are doing).

Well, the hormones, pesticides and antibiotics, herbicides and dioxins just to name a scant few reasons to be concerned.

Nope. We drink milk at home, so why would I have a problem with them drinking it at school? ;)

What are your concerns with the school milk? Does your school offer the option of 1% or chocolate milk? Is it an issue of lactose-intolerance? If the lactose intolerance is the case, then sending him with soy milk is the best solution-no worries!

My concern is the amount of sugar in the chocolate milk, but I do allow my son to buy it every now and then as a treat. Other than that, I send him with water AND the Capri Sun flavored water pouches. Yes, I know there is sugar on those as well, but 3 times less sugar than chocolate milk!

No because my son doesn't drink milk. He's only in half day kindergarten but he's such a picky eater that next year we'll probably be packing his lunches or else he would be going all day without eating. Have you talked to the school about offering other options?
