Is it ok for me to nap if my children are a little older?

I have 2 girls ages 11 and 9. We live in a pretty small house (so I can hear everything that goes on) and my girls are very good. There have been times when I am so tired that I have gone to my bedroom to lie down for an hour. I have obviously told them that I am going to lay down and let them know that if they need anything to feel free and get me. While I do take naps on occasion, the occasions are pretty few and far between. I am not the best of nappers and only do it as a last resort. Is this ok? Are they still too young for this? Do other people do this? Just looking for opinions and advice. Thank you!

It kind of depends on the child, but generally speaking... 9 and 11 are definitely old enough for you to do this.

I did it when my kids were younger, and they (and I, and the house) survived. It depends on the kids, though. If you've done it before and the kids were fine, then they should be fine again

You say you can hear everything in the house and you are telling the kids you are going down for a little bit and the kids are generally good, then I would try it. My boys are 6 and 8 and the minute I leave the room yelling occurs so I am not ready to do this yet. However when I was around 9 and my brother was 5 and my sister was 7 my mom did take an afternoon nap cos she worked in the evenings so we turned out ok but it is a different world. You could try it out and see what happens a little at a time. Good luck.

Thank you everyone! Olga, like you I leave it open for the girls to wake me at anytime. I appreciate the time you have all taken to respond.

I have a boy just turned 12 in December and a 9 year old girl. I often go in to work early so I must be up by 4:15am. (and I am not an early bird) so, I do take a nap 1-2 times per week. I ask them to work on their homework ad leave any problems they need help with for when we review the work together. This is quiet time for them. I do however leave it open for them to wake me or come to me if they need me. (they generally don't) It works great because I am then energized and ready to continue the day. But I do think it's a case by case basis.
