My 10 year old daughter came home from school last week and asked me if I would let her watch a tv show called "Degrassi". She told me that almost all the kids her class watch it and that it comes on Teen Nick. Since I have never seen this show before could someone give me some opinions about it? Is it appropriate for a 10 year old to watch? I'm going to assume that since it comes on Teen Nick its geared towards kids and pre-teens. Is it like Zoey 101, Drake and Josh or is it a little more "mature" like Victorious and ICarly?

First off thank you Becky and Shawnn for your helpful responses. I told Giselle that I would watch a few episodes of Degrassi and than I would decide if she would be allowed to watch it or not. To say I was shocked is an understatement. I wasn't really sure what I was expecting, but I thought it would be like the usual shows on Teen Nick such as the ones I mentioned above. Or at the worst be like Victorious or Icarly. The first episode I watched was about some modeling company coming to the school and one of the girls took off her dress in front of the whole school! Another episode showed a bunch of kids at a party getting so drinking and one girl got so drunk that she and a boy went into a room and he viewed her topless. At this moment in time I definitely don't think I will let Giselle watch that show anytime soon. I am really surprised that a show like that comes on Teen Nick.

It's hard to say with out knowing the maturity level of your 10 year old. I would watch this one first, before deciding. This show covers a lot of older topics. I will warn you, if you think Victorious and ICarly are more "mature", Degrassi may make your mouth drop to the floor.

I'd recommend that you watch it. I don't, but then again, we don't watch teen nick either. My kids once told me the show was stupid, not realistic, nor believable, but they only caught a bit as they were surfing for something more worthwhile.

You should ALWAYS watch what your kids want to, at least once.
