I am tossing around the same idea for my son with Aspergers! I would be interested in these comments too. Great question Melissa, thank you!

My 14 y.o. with PDD/borderline Asperger's made it in public school till 8th grade. By then, we had had enough of the bullying by students and the teachers making him feel bad. We started homeschooling in January 2011. Some days are hard, but it makes it worth it when he really "gets" a topic we're working on. It can be challenging sometimes to get him to do the work, but we have the flexibility to work around the "bad" times. He feels safer at home and doesn't have to worry about expressing himself freely.

I dont know where u are but here in Perth there are a few schools for children with disabilities that are not required for the special school yet struggle with regular school. a friend of mine wants to put her son in there as he is partly deaf.

but Personally I would call a few schools around you and see what they have to offer your son. my son has High functioning autism and I was lucky to have a great school with excellent support.

does he have an EA? dose the school have a special program for him? do they teach the other kids that your son is a normal child, but has special things (they did this with all the Autistic kids at my school)

Right now my son is in a contained classroom for behavior special needs. He feels he has no control. I am working with his counsulor on options and goals. He gets quite frustrated with the public schools.

Hi Melissa, What about going to the school board and asking for help, if there is some type of special home schooling program? Also asking on of the theripist for help with that? My sister is just now trying to get her daughter diagn. with Aspergers, she has pulled her daughter out of school and has just been doing the min. right now, she is also trying to find this out. I believe there is something out there its just finding the leaf to turn over and it being the lucky one. No one seems to know where to go with this...
