My 4 year old daughters teacher called and is concerned because she keeps eating play dough and other things she picks up from the floor and after talking to her about it she continues to sneak things into her mouth any advice on this? Is it normal?

I would speak to her doctor about her eating non food items. I had a kid that mouthed things for quite a few years, but never ate any non food items past the extra curious toddler ages of 1-2ish.

This disease is called pica. In some cases it's harmless but sometimes it's life threatening. They usually outgrow it by 2nd grade.

No I have never had a problem with one of my children eating playdough or had a student in my class that has done it. Is she eatting enough at breakfast or is it purely an inquisitive thing. By 4 years old most children dont put things in their mouth to explore them. Ask her why she does it, at 4 she is more than capable of telling you why!
