My 8 yr old has an 8pm bedtime (2nd grade) and my 10 and 11 year olds(5th grade) and have 9 pm bedtime. They were 8pm untill this year. I would highly recommend an earlier bedtime! It is so important to them!

IF HE FEELS THAT HE ALREADY KNOWS WHAT IS BEING TAUGHT HE MIGHT BE GETTING BORED WHICH IS ALSO A SIGN OF ADD BOTH OF MY CHILDREN ARE ADVANCED IN MOST SUBJECTS AND GET BORED WHEN THEY ARE BEING TAUGHT SOMETHING THEY HAVE ALREADY MASTERED

Quoting Stephanie:

They called me twice to come pick him up because he was sleeping..When I got him he said he was only sleeping during nap time...They get 15 minutes were they put their eads down and can fall asleep...He goes to bed around 9:30 and dont get up untill 8:15..So I think he getting enough sleep...I am just worried because he already knows his ABC and can count pass 100..And I think he gettin bored because thats what they are working on everyday,,And he never has stuff to bring home and I ask the teachers about it but they say check his box...

9:30 is a late bedtime for a young child.. you may want to try to shift that backwards and see if it helps

I'm surprised that your child is sleeping during class and you have not been contacted. Check with his teacher and find out what is happening during class. Remember that sometimes children will make us stories to try to make a point. I have told my children's teacher that I won't believe everything my children say about them if they don't believe everything my children say about me!

make sure he's getting 10-11 hours of sleep that's the number one issue with kids having trouble at school....

Check out what comes home. My son's school gave up on him when he was all of 5. Sounds ridiculous I know, but they said they'd never be able to challenge him through 12th grade. He was doing work he'd mastered at 3, when he was finished with it the teacher expected him to sit quietly at his desk with his hands folded. I thought it was just a horrible teacher but the next year he had a great one and he was still bored but at least given busy work for hours each day. The schools, at least in the US, are set to only cater to the slowest students - thank you No Child Left Behind. All others are forced to wait for 2 things - either the slowest students 'get' it or they fall below the satisfactory line and become part of the slowest group. A good teacher can give them busy work and maybe even a little advanced work if they're ready for it. Kids with normal IQ's will be bored quickly and above average IQ's will be even quicker.
I wound up homeschooling for 2 1/2 years and just put them in a different district for social reasons this year. They're still academically bored.
If you think your son is doing work that's too easy, ask him what he's supposed to do when he's finished with it. Ask the teacher what she expects him to do. Don't wait though. The system is broken but good teachers at least can keep them more interested and liking school. Maybe you'll have to move him to a different class. I kept my mouth shut for my son's kindergarten year and regret it. It did my son no good by not making waves.

Earlier bedtime might help too...he might simply be sleepy and not paying attention so he says he's "bored". They need about 12 hours a night when they are in kindergarten. I also agree with Susanne...talk to his teacher, that is the best place to go to find out about his day and any issues he might be having. Good Luck

I would speak to his teacher because i doubt very much if he really is bored there is probably some other reason why he doesnt want to go. Talk to your son and ask him if theres something else bothering him too.
