thanks so much Chet, Im working at doing that right now. When he gets mad or crys because hes sad I tell him ok take a breath, tell Mommy know what is upsetting you. We talk about what happened and what we can do to feel better. So glad to know i'm doing the right thing. Its upsetting to me when he gets so upset, wanted to make sure I was on the right track. One day at a time, as they say. Take Care Jen

We have four kids. I have always found that around four or five kids can go through an extremely emotional phase. One thing that can really help (not just now, but for your whole life) is learning how to take your emotions and put them into words. Being able to say "I am sad because" or "I am angry because" is the first step toward feeling better. The next step is figuring out what to do about it. It's very important for kids to learn that happiness is out there and they just have to find it. Empower your son to find solutions to his problems. Talk about what he would like to do to feel better now, or to avoid what happened that upset him.
