my 5 year old son normally has a very big appitite, as in he cleans the plate and asks for more.

in the last week he has sat at the table and after 3 bites announced he is full.

this has been happening all week, if we try to get him to eat anymore he become more and more upset till we eventualy let him get down but then donot allow any more food till the next meal.

i dont no what to do to get him eating again can anyone help??

My 2 1/2 year old does this. It can be a problem for him though because he is very small and is suppose to be on a high calorie diet. Truthfully though, I don't worry too much when he doesn't eat. If he were hungry, he'd eat. I know this because like you said he normally cleans his plate and asks for more. He just isn't hungry and trying to force him to eat just causes everyone to get upset which isn't necessary. I have to monitor my sons weight when he doesn't eat, but he hasn't ever lost more than 2 pounds before he started eating again and gained it all back. My oldest is 6 and she does the same thing. There are times she eats like crazy and others she doesn't. She doesn't have any weight issues, so I don't worry with it. When she gets hungry she will eat!

It may be that he has stopped growing at this point in time and that usually results in not wanting as much food. It also results in less sleep. When they are growing or having a growth spurt they tend to eat heaps and sleep alot. Hope that helps a bit. Its always an option to go to your local doctor if you are worried.

For a minute I was like at least I'm not the only one with a 5 year old that won't eat, but mine hasn't been a good eater for a long time. I guess alot of it is my fault. He is my third child and am just now getting over a rough few years. So he has gotten away with eating what he wanted for so long that trying the whole tough love on this is very hard. It's to the point where I am going to take him to the doctor soon and make sure he's not malnutrioned or has a Iron deficintcy... I have just been kinda hesitant only because I don't like the doctors in my town and traveling is hard for us. Plus I'm up to my ears in debt because of medical bills. So unless its a high fever or emergency we stay away from doctors!! But he really won't eat but maybe 5 things and never asks for more!! Hopefully your son is just going through a growing phase or something if he used to have a good apetite, then maybe it'll pass! Good luck

how is he sleeping? is there something he's trying to rush off to? i would throw this out to his doctor since it has been a week just to see what she/he thinks.
