My son is 8 years old. He has the H1N1 Flu. He has to take two little pills twice a day. We are having a hard time getting him to swallow them.

Looking for helpful tips for him to take the little pills.

We have tried opening like the pharmacist said with sugar and water but he spits it all up.

He also tries to take it whole and still spits it up.

Any suggestions would help.

if they are capsules, open them up and mix with chocolate pudding (if tablets crush them finely and mix in), or put into a small amount of favorite drink he might not be allowed to have too often. or give him a popsicle and tell him that it will help chase the taste away. Good luck, my 13yr old still can't swallow pills so I know the challenge your having.

Hi Ladies,
We are now on the last day of medication now and we have tried milkshakes, chocolate milk and strawberry milk and pudding and also yogurt and all have worked wonderfully as long as the kids don't see us put the medication in we are fine. We are all feeling a lot better now and hopefully this is our last H1N1 flu for the season.
Thanks Ladies so much for all your suggestion.

Quoting Connie:

try mixing it with yogurt, if the pharmacist approves

Thank-you so much Connie. We tried the yogurt but we left it whole and put it into the center of the spoon. After three tries we got it down finally.  He is to take them with juice or milk so yogurt is great idea. Never thought of that. We got one down this morning by putting it into a raisin.

So if I run out of yogurt I will switch to pudding.

Thanks you so much.
